The objective of this study is to analyze the seasonal and interannual variations of the Phytoecological Regions through temporal series of the EF AI-NDVI (European Fourier-Adjusted and Interpolated NDVI), a processed dataset from NDVI of A VHRR, on which the processing steps led to the extraction of information of the vegetation indices through time. The analysis of time-series ITom this dataset reveals, for the years 1982-1999, seasonal and interannual variability on Brazilian land surface vegetation state. The values of greatest vegetative vigor go from January (in the South) to July (in the North) and this variation seems to occur repeatedly in those geographical regions and climatic factors. The flora diversity of caatinga biome was related to biophysical and human factors as an indication of conservation areas. Multicriteria analysis was used to indicate regions with favorable conditions for greater diversity, through biophysical factors, and regions with less human pressure, based on socio-economic variables extracted from agricultural census. The results were compared with inventories of flora, phyto-sociology and biomass. Some biophysical factors showed significant relationships with the diversity of flora in the caatinga. The areas indicated by these factors were analyzed in conjunction with anthropic factors, thus allowing for the identification of potential areas for conservation in the Caatinga biome.

The objective of this work is to study the behavior of Brazilian vegetation throughout time series of Fraction of Photosynthetically Active Radiation (FAPAR) absorbed by a plant canopy derived from vegetation index of the A VHRR sensor; observing the variations of the types of vegetation, influences and relationships with the cIimate. The F AP AR dataset has spatial resolution of 0.1 °xO.1 o and temporal resolution of 10 days for the period 1982 to 1999. The data were investigated considering the seasonal and interannual variations for phytoecological regions of the country. The FAPAR results show: the largest values were observed in Evergreen Broadleaf Forests (Dense and Open) and Campinarana, the lesser amplitude of variation of FAPAR occur in Savanna...
