Avantages et inconvénients de la stéréo vidéo : applicabilité au protocole pour STAVIRO ArchiMer
Powell, Abigail; Pelletier, Dominique; Roman, William; Giraud-carrier, Charlotte; Jac, Cyrielle; Gins, Niels; Preuss, Bastien.

Roman, William; Pelletier, Dominique; Powell, Abigail.
• Conducted within the AMBIO project, this work deals with coral reef fish communities and associated habitats, in the New Caledonian lagoons. It relies on remote unbaited underwater video observations, using the STAVIRO rotating technique. The study takes place in the Borendy area, encompassing two no-take marine reserves Nemou and Moindé-Ouémié. The sampling design covers the entire area, and was stratified according to reef geomorphology and protection status. 66 stations were validated within 3.5 days. They were analyzed to characterize at each station habitat and fish, from a species list that includes fished, emblematic and functionally important species. • 32 indicators were computed and mapped (Sextant server). 24 indicators were analysed using the...

Evaluation de l’état de santé des récifs par stations vidéo rotatives STAVIRO : Bourail, Zone Côtière Ouest, Campagne 2012. ArchiMer
Roman, William; Pelletier, Dominique; Powell, Abigail; Bockel, Thomas; Gonson, Charles; Mallet, Delphine.
This work deals with fish communities and associated habitats, in the context of New Caledonian coral reef ecosystems. It was conducted within the AMBIO project. The study relies on remote unbaited underwater video observations, using the STAVIRO rotating technique. The study takes place in the Bourail area, an area (Western Coastal Area) part of the World Heritage site “New Caledonian lagoons”. It encompasses two Marine Protected Areas, Poé and the Ile Verte. The sampling design covers the entire area, and was stratified according to reef geomorphology and protection status. 150 stations were validated within 6 days (40hrs spent at sea). They were analyzed to characterize the habitat surrounding each station, and fish communities, based on a species list...

Evaluation de l’impact de l’activité de croisière sur l’habitat et les peuplements de poissons de la Baie d’Easo-Xepenehe, Lifou. Campagne de stations vidéo rotatives STAVIRO 2014 ArchiMer
Pelletier, Dominique; Bockel, Thomas; Carpentier, Liliane; Schohn, Thomas; Raillard, Benoit; Roman, William; Powell, Abigail.
This study is conducted within the AMBIO project, focused on the biodiversity of New Caledonian lagoons. It aims at assessing the ecological impact of touristic cruises in the Baie du Santal at Lifou Island. A survey conducted in 2014 using the remote unbaited underwater video STAVIRO rotating technique, enabled to validate 133 stations, which were then analyzed to characterize the habitat surrounding each station, and fish communities, based on a list of 565 fish species. 15 indicators were computed and mapped (maps available on a Sextant server). They were analysed using the PAMPA computing tool. Outcomes were organized in a dashboard for each management objective (biodiversity conservation and fisheries management). 122 fish species (plus turtle and...

• Conducted within the AMBIO project, this work deals with coral reef fish communities and associated habitats, in the New Caledonian lagoons. It relies on remote unbaited underwater video observations, using the STAVIRO rotating technique. • The study takes place in the Pouebo area, part of the New Caledonian World Heritage site, and encompassing three no-take marine reserves enclosed within a Locally Managed Area (LMA). • The sampling design covers the entire area, and was stratified according to reef geomorphology and protection status. 86 stations were validated within 4 days. They were analyzed to characterize the habitat surrounding each station, and fish communities, based on a species list that includes fished species, emblematic species and...

The impacts of short-term temporal factors on the magnitude and direction of marine protected area effects detected in reef fish monitoring ArchiMer
Powell, Abigail; Pelletier, Dominique; Jones, Timothy; Mallet, Delphine.
Marine protected areas (MPA) and in particular no-take marine reserves have been identified as important tools for the conservation of reef fish and habitats. A significant challenge of reef fish monitoring is to determine the influence of temporal factors on fish counts. Fish assemblages are dynamic and changes in activity patterns throughout the day can influence the results of surveys. While many monitoring programs account for the impacts of spatial heterogeneity on fish assemblages the effects of short-term temporal variation are less well known. In the present study, we analysed data from 197 video drops inside and outside New Caledonian MPAs and examined temporal variations in various metrics commonly used to monitor marine reserves. In addition to...
