Irrigated paddy fields are the rice growing areas having high yield potential. Two significant factors enhancing high yield are the well-adapted variety and appropriate management. PSL05101-93-1-32 is a promising rice line derived from the 3-way cross of PSL00508-3-1-1-4/IR66738-118-1-2//IR67966-188-2-2-1 in 2005. It has as high yield potential as 965 kg/rai (6.03 t/ha). The average grain yield is 730 kg/rai, greater than PSL2, CNT1 and RD47 varieties by 14, 13 and 7%, respectively. The maturity is 115 days after sowing by transplanting method. Plant height is 83-90 cm. This promising line is a non-glutinous long grain rice having straw-color husk. The paddy rice seed dimension is 10.4×2.61×2.10 mm in width × length × thickness, respectively. The paddy...

Recently, the outbreak of brown planthopper in irrigated paddy fields in the lower northern region was found frequently due to continuous rice growing resulting in low yield of rice production. RD49 is a non–glutinous rice which is insensitive to photoperiod. This line was obtained from 3–way cross, PSL00508-3-1-1-4 /IR66738-118-1-2//IR68544-29-2-1-3-1-2. The average yield is 733 kg/rai which is 26, 15 and 6% greater than those of Chai Nat 1, Phitsanulok 2 and RD47, respectively whereas the maximum yield potential reaches 939 kg/rai. The plant type shows moderately strong culm with about 95 cm height, 102-107 days to maturity for seed broadcasting and 116 days for transplanting. The line is moderately resistant to brown planthopper and resistant to rice...

Research studies the impacts of multiple pest injuries on rice crop health and yield grown under irrigated ecosystem with different cultural practices in Surin province. Data sets were collected from 75 farmers' fields and analysed using non-parametric multivariate statistical method, probability, cluster analysis, Chi-square distance analysis, and correspondence analysis. Data sets included soil properties, irrigation system, rice cultivars, cultural practices, yields, crop damages due to insects, diseases, and weeds. The results from a cluster analysis based on multiple pest injury profiles (IP), farmer fields could be classified into 4 groups; IP1, IP2, IP3, and IP4, with the number of members of 71, 2, 1, and 1, respectively. Bacterial blight (BB), caused by Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo), is one of the most serious diseases of rice in all major rice-growing areas of Thailand. The most effective approach to control BB is the use of resistant varieties which is economically feasible, an environmental-friendly control method and easy for farmers to handle. However, the selection pressure from the usage of resistant cultivars may result in mutation of the pathogen population to overcome the resistance genes. A feasible method to solve this problem is by pyramiding multiple resistance genes, which are board spectrum, into susceptible rice varieties. The aims of this research were to identify the effectiveness of board spectrum BB resistance genes and to better understand the...

CNT96024-61-1-PSL-1-2-20-2 is a short-growth duration rice variety which is suitable for growing in the rain-fed area. This rice variety derived from CNT96024-61-1-PSL-1-2, a product ofthe crossing of three cultivars; i.e. Suphanburi 1, IR64 and CNT86074-25-9-1(Suphanburi1/IR64//CNT86074-25-9-1), that still expressed its genetic diversity while it was growing in a breeder seeds production field. This leaded to the selection of the elite lines, CNT96024-61-1-PSL-1-2-20-2 which had an early maturation and short growth duration so that it could be harvested shortly at about 92 days after sowing. It had a fairly high yield potential of1,004 kg/rai with the average yields of 681 kg/rai, which is comparable with theRD41 (742 kg/rai), but higher thanRD43 (666...

Fungicides are important tool for managing diseases in many crops. For example, managing brown spot of rice relies on the application of fungicides. The heavy use of fungicides has triggered to the development of isolates of Bipolaris oryzae (Helminthosporium oryzae) resistant to fungicides. This survey, the farmers were randomly interviewed about fungicide application, showed that most of farmers (76%) used triazole fungicide. 18, 16, 8 and 8 % used dithiocarbamat, triazolobenzo strobirulin and benzimidazole respectively. In vitro fungicide sensitivity assays using poison media technique expressed propiconazole and haxaconazole at concentration 10 ppm inhibit completely mycelium growth. This study was undertaked for evaluating the prevalence of fungicide...

Trichoderma harzianum 01-52 prepared as powder formulation was evaluated for the efficacy to reduce dirty panicle and to increase yield of rice. This investigation was the cooperative research between Plant Pathologists from Kasetsart University and Rice Department. Rice seeds (Suphan Buri 3) were soaked in spore suspension of T. harzianum 01-52 (100 g/100 l) for 15 hrs and were further incubated for 24 hrs before sowing in plastic tray contained with burned rice hull. Eighteen-day-old rice seedlings were planted in rice field by transplanting machine. Rice plants were sprayed with T. harzianum 01-52 spore suspension (100 g/100 l/rai or 1,600 m2) for three times at 60, 70 and 80 days after sowing. In some treatments, two additional foliar sprays were...
