Captures accidentelles de mammifères marins sur les filets calés en Manche : Observations réalisées dans le cadre de la première année de réalisation du projet FilManCet (Novembre 2008- Octobre 2009) ArchiMer
Morizur, Yvon; Gaudou, Olivier; Miossec, Dominique; Leblond, Emilie; Toulhoat, Lucile; Gamblin, Caroline.
Up to now there has been no strong investigation on bycatch of marine mammals in the French set net fisheries of the English Channel (ICES areas VIIe,d &IVc) as the EC 812/2004 regulation does not oblige the state members to put observers on board of vessels in the ICES area VII. A study named FilManCet has been started end 2008-beginning 2009 to focus on the bycatch occurring on the set net vessels issued from Boulogne and Dunkerque ports (fisheries in VIId&IVc) and from the ports of North of Brittany. In this study which is conducted by the Fishing Industry, the data are made available to the scientists of Ifremer who has prepared also the sampling scheme for observation at sea. Two observers are employed full time in the North of France coasts...

Eléments de comprehension des stratégies de captage naturel de l'huître creuse (Crassostrea gigas) des ostréiculteurs de Charente- Maritime ArchiMer
Toulhoat, Lucile.
In France, Pacific oyster farming is mostly dependent on natural spat collection, which supplies more than half of the needs in juvenile oysters, the remaining part is provided by hatcheries. This activity has been undertaken since the second half of the nineteenth century, mostly in the Arcachon basin and in the pertuis charentais (Charente straits), which provides most of natural spat produced in France. Traditionally, Pacific oyster juveniles are harvested by oyster farmers, among which some are specialized. Specific collectors are settled in the intertidal zone during reproduction period (end of June to beginning of September). In Charente-Maritime, the spat collection strategies have underwent many changes, and are now quite diverse. The present study...

Note on the recent French studies on by catch and pingers in the English Channel ArchiMer
Morizur, Yvon; Hassani, Sami; Le Niliot, Philippe; Gamblin, Caroline; Toulhoat, Lucile; Pezeril, Sylvain.
The English Channel comprised the ICES areras VIIe and VIId which are more or less a part of the North Sea area as delimitated by Ascobans. Two studies (Pingiroise and FilManCet) were conduced in that area. Filmancet study comprises two different areas: North Brittany and Nord Pas de Calais (Figure 1). The main objectives are to quantify accidental catches of marine mammals in set nets and identify solutions to limit them. Pingiroise is a study dedicated to the set net fishery in the Iroise area at the west of Brittany. The three objectives of that study in a marine protected area was to make comparative trials with pingers, to determine the bycatch in set net fishery operating inside and around the Marine protected area and to estimate the abundance and...
