Without effective means the strawberry blossom weevil can cause great yield losses in strawberry production. The weevils lay eggs in flower buds and partially severs the bud from the plant. By developing traps baited with pheromones and plant volatiles we search to manage weevil populations to reduce damage on the strawberry plants.

Combining 1,4-dimethoxybenzene, the major flower volatile of wild strawberry Fragaria vesca, with the aggregation pheromone of the strawberry blossom weevil Anthonomus rubi improves attraction Organic Eprints

The aggregation pheromone of strawberry blossom weevil [Anthonomus rubi Herbst (Col.: Curculionidae)], a 1:4:1 blend of Grandlure I, II and racemic lavadulol, has been available for pest monitoring for several years but shows low attractancy. Attempts to control A. rubi using the pheromone alone were also unsuccessful. This paper reports the finding that addition of the major flower volatile from wild strawberry flowers [Fragaria vesca L. (Rosaceae)], 1,4-dimethoxybenzene (comprising 98% of the volatiles emitted from wild strawberry flowers), to the aggregation pheromone increased trap catches by over two fold compared to the pheromone alone. L’anthonome des framboises (Anthonomus rubi) et le ver des framboises (Byturus tomentosus) causent de grosses pertes dans les cultures biologiques de framboises. Dans le cadre du projet européen Core Organic 2, le projet «Softpest Multitrap» a testé une nouvelle approche pour controller simultanément ces deux ravageurs avec un piège commun, afin de proposer une alternative aux insecticides. Strawberry blossom weevil (SBW), Anthonomus rubi Herbst (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) and European tarnished plant bug (ETB), Lygus rugulipennis Poppius (Hetereoptera: Miridae), cause significant damage to strawberry and raspberry crops. Using the SBW aggregation pheromone and ETB sex pheromone we optimized and tested a single trap for both species. A series of field experiments in crops and seminatural habitats in five European countries tested capture of the target pests and the ability to avoid captures of beneficial arthropods. I dette prosjektet ble det gjennomført et dyrkningsforsøk av fluelarver for å undersøke muligheten for å bruke insektproteiner som fôr til fisk og husdyr. Larvene som ble produsert ble kjemisk analysert for å vurdere larvenes egnethet til fôr. Det ble også gjennomført en markedsundersøkelse blant fôrprodusenter og husdyrbrukere for å se på responsen for fôrprodukter laget av insektproteiner. Dyrkningsforsøkene viste at det er mulig å dyrke fluelarver, men at prosessen må optimaliseres for at det ikke skal bli for arbeidskrevende. Kvaliteten på vekstsubstratet for fluelarvene ser ut til å være avgjørende for å få en god larvevekst. Fluelarvene ser ut til å inneholde tilfredsstillende mengde næringsstoffer for at det kan brukes som fôr til fisk og husdyr....

I dette prosjektet er det blitt testet om man kan kontrollere jordbærsnutebillen ved bruk av traktfeller med duftstoffer for å få redusert insektskader i et jordbærfelt. 200 feller ble plassert i et toårig forsøksfelt i Steinkjer kommune der det var kjent at billen var etablert. Fangsten av biller i fellene ble kontrollert gjennom hele vekstsesongen, samt skade på plantene og avling ble registret. Til sammen 5361 biller ble fanget. Imidlertid var fangsten lav tidlig i sesongen da selve skaden på plantene oppsto. Ut fra resultatene ble det ikke påvist mindre skade eller høyere avling i forsøksfeltet enn i kontrollfeltet. In the absence of effective control measures, the strawberry blossom weevil (Anthonomus rubi) (SBW) and the raspberry beetle (Byturus tomentosus) (RB) cause large (10 - >80%) losses in yield and quality in organically grown raspberry. Attractive lures for both pests were combined into a single multitrap for the economical management of both of these pests at the same time. A consortium with 6 European countries has been created to work on the management of those pests. The pheromones of A. rubi and L. rugulipennis have been characterized in England by NRI/EMR. For the attraction of A. rubi the importance of host plant volatiles in combination with the pheromones has also been documented. The strawberry blossom weevil, Anthonomus rubi, and the European tarnished plant bug,Lygus rugulipennis, can cause substantial damage in organic strawberries in Northern and Central Europe. In conventional production it is also desirable to find alternatives to current pesticide controls, which negatively affects beneficials and also creates a risk of building pesticide resistance. Anthonomus rubi lays an egg in a developing flower bud and then partially bites off the flower stem, resulting in a loss of yield. Ozonvann mot gråskimmel i jordbær Organic Eprints

I dette prosjektet er det blitt testet om bruk av ozonholdig vann kan kontrollere gråskimmel i et jordbærfelt. Ozonholdig vann ble sprøytet direkte på plantene i et felt og resultatene sammenlignet med effekten av bruk av fungicider og vann uten tilsetning. Resultatene viste at ozoholdig vann har en effekt på gråskimmelsoppen men mer forskning må til for å optimaleisere metoden for å utvikle en ny plantevernstrategi.

Progress in pest management in organic strawberry production Organic Eprints

For tuning up sustainable organic strawberry production new measures in pest management needs to be developed. Both pest insects and pathogenic fungi reduces yields and fruit quality. Present study shows that mass trapping of strawberry blossom weevils by using volatile baited traps is not an efficient measure in an established field. However, in a new study traps will be combined with fencing of the field with insect net. There will also be a study on the effect of using ozonated water as a measure to prevent the fungus related disease grey mould to develop.

Quinoadyrking i Norge. Potensiale for innovasjon og utprøving av sorter. Organic Eprints

Rapporten gjennomgår bakgrunnen for quinoadyrking historisk, botanisk og hvorfor quinoa med sine næringsstoffer har fått status som "superfood". Dernest gjennomgås forutsetninger i Norge for å lykkes med quinoadyrking. Det er gjennomført et to-årig feltforsøk for dyrking av quinoa. Sortsutvalget av quinoa er mangfoldig, men det er få som egner seg for dyrking under skandinaviske forhold og tilgjengeligheten av sorter er liten på det europeiske og nord-amerikanske frømarkedet. Feltforsøket ble gjennomført i 2015 og 2016 på Tingvoll, Møre og Romsdal. Det ble sådd åtte ulike kultivarer. Resultatene viser at god kontroll på rotugras og rikelig gjødsling er viktige faktorer for gode avlinger. Tørt vær og tidlig høsting er viktig for å unngå angrep av meldugg....
