Association between anaerobic components of the maximal accumulated oxygen deficit and 30-second Wingate test BJMBR

The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between the anaerobic components of the maximal accumulated oxygen deficit (MAOD) and of the 30-second Wingate anaerobic test (30-WAnT). Nine male physical education students performed: a) a maximal incremental exercise test; b) a supramaximal constant workload test to determine the anaerobic components of the MAOD; and c) a 30-WAnT to measure the peak power (PP) and mean power (MP). The fast component of the excess post-exercise oxygen consumption and blood lactate accumulation were measured after the supramaximal constant workload test in order to determine the contributions made by alactic (ALMET) and lactic (LAMET) metabolism. Energy system contribution in a maximal incremental test: correlations with pacing and overall performance in a 10-km running trial BJMBR

This study aimed to verify the association between the contribution of energy systems during an incremental exercise test (IET), pacing, and performance during a 10-km running time trial. Thirteen male recreational runners completed an incremental exercise test on a treadmill to determine the respiratory compensation point (RCP), maximal oxygen uptake ( V ˙ O 2 max), peak treadmill speed (PTS), and energy systems contribution; and a 10-km running time trial (T10-km) to determine endurance performance. Extremely low oxygen partial pressures for the storage of ‘Royal Gala’ apple Bragantia

ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of storing ‘Royal Gala’ apple under extremely low oxygen partial pressures on their anaerobic metabolism, ethylene production and fruit quality after 9 months of storage plus 7 days of shelf life at 20 °C. The storage conditions tested were: 1.2 kPa O2 + 2.0 kPa CO2; 0.7 kPa O2 + 1.5 kPa CO2; 0.5 kPa O2 + 1.2 kPa CO2; 0.4 kPa O2 +1.2 kPa CO2 and 0.25 kPa O2 + 0.0 kPa CO2. The fruit storage temperature was 1.0 °C (± 0.1). Fruit stored at 0.4 kPa O2 + 1.2 kPa CO2 maintained higher flesh firmness and a higher percentage of healthy fruit. Respiration is a key variable to understand the flux of energy and matter in any ecosystem. In fact, ecosystem respiration is a critical component of the carbon cycle and might be important in regulating biosphere response to global climate change. Respiration is the basic process used by the biota to yield energy from the degradation of organic matter for their survival needs, its measurement provides an estimate of the minimum energy needed by the organism.
