Action antagoniste, sur bois in vitro, de quelques basidiomycetes lignicoles vis a vis du Ceratocystis fimbriata f platani present dans le tissu ligneux Inra

Dans les platanes tués par le chancre coloré, le parasite responsable (Ceratocystis fimbriata) disparaît progressivement pour faire place à d’autres espèces parmi lesquelles divers basidiomycètes lignicoles. L’éventualité d’un rôle antagoniste de ces espèces à l’égard du C fimbriata a été étudiée par confrontation in vitro. Les espèces étudiées sont confrontées avec le C fimbriata présent dans du bois de platane malade découpé au microtome. Les résultats montrent un antagonisme entre le C fimbriata et les espèces suivantes : Bjerkandera adusta, Ganoderma sp, Chondrostereum purpureum et un basidiomycète non identifié. Avec Lentinus tigrinus et Fomes fomentarius, l’antagonisme se manifeste également mais d’une façon moins constante.

Characterization of 41 microsatellite loci developed from the genome sequence of the poplar rust fungus, Melampsora larici-populina Inra

Forty-one microsatellite markers were developed for the poplar rust fungus Melampsora larici-populina. The genome sequence of M. larici-populina strain 98AG31 was screened in silico for microsatellite loci using Magellan software. Thirty-nine loci, evaluated on a sexual population of 35 M. larici-populina isolates sampled on larch trees in the French Alps, were identified to be highly polymorphic. These markers revealed two to 34 alleles, with an average of 7.23 alleles per locus. The estimated heterozygosity ranged from 0.029 to 0.958 across the 41 microsatellite loci. These markers will be highly useful for population genetics studies of M. larici-populina.

The basidiomycete fungus Microbotryum violaceum is responsible for the anther-smut disease in many plants of the Caryophyllaceae family and is a model in genetics and evolutionary biology. Infection is initiated by dikaryotic hyphae produced after the conjugation of two haploid sporidia of opposite mating type. This study describes M. violaceum ESTs corresponding to nuclear genes expressed during conjugation and early hyphal production.ResultsA normalized cDNA library generated 24,128 sequences, which were assembled into 7,765 unique genes; 25.2% of them displayed significant similarity to annotated proteins from other organisms, 74.3% a weak similarity to the same set of known proteins, and 0.5% were orphans. Fungal pretreatment by Phanerochaete chrysosporium to reduce the inhibition of methanogenesis by dehydroabietic acid Inra

The white-rot basidiomycete Phanerochaete chrysosporium BKM-F-1767 was tested for its capacity to degrade dehydroabietic acid (DHA). In anaerobic treatment, this molecule is the most recalcitrant member of the resin acid group, which is known to cause operational problems to anaerobic reactors treating pulp and paper industry wastewaters. In this study the effect of DHA on different parameters, such as growth, ligninolytic enzyme activity, extracellular protein production as well as both glycerol and ammonium consumption by the fungus, was determined. Influence of cell immobilization on the production of benzaldehyde and benzyl alcohol by the white-rot fungi Bjerkandera adusta, Ischnoderma benzoinum and Dichomitus squalens Inra

Three white-rot basidiomycetes, Bjerkandera adusta, Ischnoderma benzoinum and Dichomitus squalens, were cultivated on a liquid medium supplemented with l-phenylalanine, a precursor for benzaldehyde (bitter almond aroma) and benzyl alcohol. Remarkable amounts of benzaldehyde (587 mg l−1) were found in cultures of B. adusta. Immobilization of this fungus on polyurethane foam cubes allowed an 8.3-fold increase of the production of benzaldehyde and a 15-fold increase of the productivity as compared with non-immobilized cells. Aryl-alcohol oxidase activity was only detected in B. adusta. Rust fungi are some of the most devastating pathogens of crop plants. They are obligate biotrophs, which extract nutrients only from living plant tissues and cannot grow apart from their hosts. Their lifestyle has slowed the dissection of molecular mechanisms underlying host invasion and avoidance or suppression of plant innate immunity. We sequenced the 101-Mb genome of Melampsora larici-populina, the causal agent of poplar leaf rust, and the 89-Mb genome of Puccinia graminis f. sp. tritici, the causal agent of wheat and barley stem rust.
