Anthocyanin trisaccharides in blue berries of Vaccinium padifolium IPB - Escola Superior Agrária

Delphinidin 3-O-alfa-rhamnoside, malvidin 3-O-(6''-O-alfa-rhamnopyranosyl-beta-glucopyranoside) and the 3-O-(6''-O-alfa-rhamnopyranosyl-2''-O-beta-xylopyranosyl-beta-glucopyranosides) of cyanidin, petunidin and peonidin were isolated by various chromatographic techniques from the edible berries of Vaccinium padifolium. Their complete structures were elucidated mainly by one- and two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Together they account for 7% of the anthocyanin content in this species. No anthocyanidin 3-triglycoside, 3-rutinoside or 3-rhamnoside had previously been found in the genus Vaccinium. The 3-O-(6''-O-alfa- rhamnopyranosyl-2''-O-beta-xylopyranosyl-beta-glucopyranosides) of petunidin and peonidin are novel compounds.

We investigated a strategy for the chemotaxonomy study of Chrysobalanus icaco Linnaeus (Chrysobalanaceae) based on ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled with diode array detection fingerprint in combination with multivariate analysis. Two models using principal component analysis and partial least squares discriminant analysis were developed, and the samples could be successfully classified into two classes: Class 1 (red morphotype) and Class 2 (white and black morphotypes). Foliar flavonoids of nine species of Bauhinia Rev. Bras. Bot.

Foliar flavonoids of nine species of Bauhinia were isolated and identified. All the compounds correspond to glycosides derived from kaempferol, quercetin, isorhamnetin and myricetin. Derivatives of the latter aglyconhe seem to be rare in Bauhinia. Derivatives of isorhamnetin are commonly found in species of subgenus Bauhinia and were not detected in the two species of subgenus Phanera. Flavonoid patterns of species of the former subgenus are in general more complex than those of the latter.

The use of juvenile <i>Artemia</i> as feed in aquaculture and in the pet shop industry has been getting more attention during the last decade. In this study, the use of selected bacterial strains to improve the nutritional value of dry food for <i>Artemia</i> juveniles and to obtain control of the associated microbial community was examined. Nine bacterial strains were selected based on their positive effects on survival and/or growth of <i>Artemia</i> juveniles under monoxenic culture conditions, while other strains caused no significant effect, significantly lower rates of survival and/or growth, or even total mortality of the <i>Artemia</i> . The genus <i>Batzella</i>: a chemosystematic problem OMA

Biogenetically unrelated cyclic guanidine alkaloids and pyrroloquinoline alkaloids have been reported from sponges assigned to the genus <i>Batzella</i>. These sponges have been assigned to this genus because of their possession of a simple complement of thin strongyles in irregular plumoreticulate arrangement. Cyclic guanidine alkaloids were first reported from an alleged axinellid species from the Caribbean, <i>Ptilocaulis</i> aff. <i>P. spiculifer</i>, and subsequently from a second Carribean specimen identified as <i>Ptilocaulis spiculifer</i> and at the same time from a Red Sea poecilosclerid, <i>Hemimycale</i> sp.
