Jacques, G.; De Billy, G..
One approach to the problem of aquaculture consists in a simple acceleration of natural processes in extended areas of salt or brackish water. From this point of view, the authors have been interested in the effect of moderate fertilization on natural communities . A first series of experiments (8) was made in an external tank of 3000 liters. After fertilization, the development of flowering diatoms was obtained each time. The time of latency, the level of production reached, the composition of the final communities is to some extent variable, but bacterial development may be neglected. In contrast to earlier results, obtained in small volumes of water, these experiments have always led to simplified communities mostly dominated by the diatom...

Management of natural pasture increases native and exotic herbaceous biomass and biodiversity in the Caatinga of Brazil. Repositório Alice
CONRADO, J. A. de A.; CAVALCANTE, A. C. R.; TONUCCI, R. G.; SALDANHA, A. R.; CÂNDIDO, M. J. D..
Abstract: The objective of this study was to evaluate the ability of savanna thinning and enrichment with grasses to maintain local biodiversity and intensify biomass production in an area of Caatinga. The study was carried out in a Caatinga area thinned into savanna and an unmanipulated area during the rainy and rainy-dry transition seasons of 2016. The herbaceous biomass production, diversity, and equability of the thinned and unmanipulated areas were evaluated by calculating values of the Shannon-Weaver (H') and Pielou (J') indices. The establishment of massai and buffel grasses in the savanna-thinned area was also evaluated. The area thinned into savanna produced more native herbaceous forage biomass in both the rainy (1,940.55 kg ha-1) and rainy-dry...

Response of the brain to enrichment Anais da ABC (AABC)
DIAMOND,MARIAN C..
Before 1960, the brain was considered by scientists to be immutable, subject only to genetic control. In the early sixties, however, investigators were seriously speculating that environmental influences might be capable of altering brain structure. By 1964, two research laboratories proved that the morphology and chemistry or physiology of the brain could be experientially altered (Bennett et al. 1964, Hubel and Wiesel 1965). Since then, the capacity of the brain to respond to environmental input, specifically "enrichment,'' has become an accepted fact among neuroscientists, educators and others. In fact, the demonstration that environmental enrichment can modify structural components of the rat brain at any age altered prevailing presumptions about the...
