ABSTRACT Schyzocotyle acheilognathi is a tapeworm cestode commonly found in native freshwater fishes from Asia. This cestode has low host specificity and for that reason it has been registered parasitizing more than 200 cultured and wild fish species, besides amphibians, reptiles and birds from different regions of the world. With a high pathogenic potential, S. acheilognathi may cause mortalities in highly infected fish. In South America, Schyzocotyle was reported in Cyprinus carpio from a Brazilian fish farm at the municipality of Cornélio Procópio, northern Paraná State and from the natural environment in C. carpio from Neuquen River, Patagonia, Argentina. The parasitofauna in the giant Amazon basin, pirarucu (Arapaima gigas Schinz, 1822) cultured in fish farms from the state of Amapá, in eastern Amazonia (Brazil) was investigated. Of the 100 examined fish, 90.0% were parasitized by Ichthyophthirius multifiliis (Ciliophora), Dawestrema cycloancistrium, Dawestrema cycloancistrioides (Monogenoidea) and Polyacanthorhynchus macrorhynchus (Acanthocephala), which had an aggregated distribution pattern. The highest infection rates were caused by I. multifiliis and the lowest by P. macrorhynchus. Infection rates were different for each fish farm, due to different water quality and management characteristics. The environmental impact of a brown trout farm located in the Grande Rade de Cherbourg (Normandy) is reported. During observations the fish stock evolved within the range of 140 to 350 metric tons. Farm influence was researched on water column through hydrochemistry, phytoplankton, faecal bacteria and, on bottom, through grain size, organic matter, metals, macrobenthos. This report only deals with water column. Except ammonia, no hydrological parameter seems to be affected, even near to the net pens. Phytoplankton and coliform bacteria were not altered. An extra concentration of ammonia was detected at some tens meters from the raft, with favourable conditions. El-Max fish farm is one of the most important natural fish farm in Alexandria which is suffering from die-off of large amounts of fish. Facing this problem we must deal with the estimation of the quality of the farm raring unit environment (ponds). Analysis of samples using the Bray - Curtis similarity coefficient test yielded that, the input and El-Khandac were similar at (97%), while the eight ponds were classified at different level of similarity as follows: pond1 (B1) and pond7 (B7) were similar at (86%), B2 and B3 were similar at (90%), B14, B10 and B9 were similar at (93%), where as B11 is singly separated at (83%). ABSTRACT Monitoring of the interspecific hybrid production and trade is essential for the appropriate management of these animals in fish farms. The identification of catfish hybrids by morphological analysis is unreliable, particularly of juveniles and post-F1 individuals. Therefore, in the present study, we used five molecular markers (four nuclear genes and one mitochondrial gene) to detect hybrids in the trade of pimelodid juvenile fish from different stocks purchased of five seed producers in Brazil. The present study was carried out on a fish farm located in Palmital - SP, Brazil, which consists of 2706 m3 of net cages with an annual production of 400 tons of tilapia and regular harvests throughout the year. INTRODUCTION: Norway Lobster fisheries in the Celtic Sea are mostly located in the Vllg and Vllh subdivisions. The communal regulation applying to Norway Lobster mesh size has been in effect since 1978. The use of derogative mesh size to catch Norway Lobsters is only allowed if the percentage of species protected by marketable size caught at the same time as Norway Lobsters is inferior to a fixed threshold in relation to the mesh size in effect. This regulation has been applied according to a specific schedule.
