E-commerce's value creation in agricultural and food markets will only occur to the extent that e-commerce firms exist throughout the supply chain. The problem is that e-commerce firms throughout the agricultural and food supply chain have faced a serious challenge in staying in business. Many have been forced to exit the market, and only a few have survived to develop into functional web-based businesses. The objective of this research study is to identify characteristics that are associated with successful e-commerce firms throughout the agricultural and food supply chain. Aspectos biológico-pesqueros del abadejo (Genypterus blacodes) OceanDocs

The kingklip is one of the species that has been traditionally exploited in the Argentine Sea. Although captures were not very important, they have been increased in the last years. In this paper, the structure of the concentration areas of summer, spring and winter distribution and other biological aspects were analyzed, on the basis of the data collected during cruises carried out by R/V"Walther Herwig" and R/V"Shinkai Maru" in Argentine waters during 1978/79. The trophic spectrum of the kingklip comprises mainly food species of the Classes Pisces and Crustacea as well as other complementary groups like Mollusca, Brachiopoda and haliacea.

Distribución, áreas de concentración y estructura de la población del bacalao austral (Salilota australis, Gunther 1887)del Atlántico Sudoccidental OceanDocs

The "bacalao austral" is a typical fish from the cold water of the Southwest Atlantic and the Southeastern Pacific oceans, whose fishery has not yet developed. In this work, the structure of the concentration areas of summer and winter distribution and other biological items were analyzed, basing on data provening from R/V"Walther Herwig" and R/V"Shinkai Maru", which operated in these waters during 1978/79/. The trophic vertical migrations are common in this species.

Het Schelde-estuarium als filter: een bioreactor van stofstromen OMA

The Scheldt estuary is exposed to large loads of carbon and nutrients. This leads to a eutrophication problem characterized by reduced oxygen concentrations and a huge efflux of CO<sub>2</sub>. In the coastal waters a degradation of the foodchain is noted caused by excessive nutrient supply. The capacity of the estuary to polish the water is important but can not cope with the vast scale of the immissions. Restoration and development of tidal wetlands can contribute in several ways to restore the water quality. Increase of water treatment is expected to have positive ecological results. Nevertheless, restoration of the oxygen conditions might counteract some purifying processes.

Impacts of Geographical Indications - Review of Methods and Empirical Evidences AgEcon

This paper focuses on methods for assessing the territorial impact (economic, social and environmental) of geographical indication systems. First, in a review of methods, methodological difficulties and choices are discussed and major studies are briefly presented. We highlight that it is necessary to identify a clear reference point and a relevant set of indicators and that this question has led to an active and rich research corpus. In a second part, we present some of the results of a recent European research program, SINER-GI. We analyze the impacts of 14 case studies in a common methodology. Live-food mediated drug delivery as a tool for disease treatment in larviculture: the enrichment of therapeutics in rotifers and <i>Artemia</i> nauplii OMA

The live food enrichment technique using emulsions for nutritional deficiencies in rotifers and <i>Artemia</i> was further investigated as a tool for transferring therapeutics through the food chain. <i>Artemia</i> nauplii and the rotifer <i>Brachionus plicatilis</i> were enriched with a self-emulsifying concentrate in which the therapeutic mixture trimetoprim: sulfamethoxazole was incorporated. An analytical method and protocol for the quantification of trimethoprim and sulfamethoxazole in a heterogeneous biological matrix, such as <i>Artemia</i> , was developed using High Performance Liquid Chromatography. The life cycle of <i>Anguillicola crassus</i> OMA

For some years now the parasitic swim bladder nematode <i>Anguillicola crassus</i> of the European eel <i>Anguilla anguilla</i> L., has been reported from several European countries. The entire life history of this parasite has recently been elucidated in our laboratory. Young larvae leave the swim bladder of the host via the pneumatic duct and reach the water through the digestive tract. They are ingested by small copepods (Cyclopoida), which act as intermediate hosts. Larvae remain in the hemocoel until the copepods are eaten by the final host, the European eel.
