Adapting grapevine varieties to climate change: can the genetic variability meet the challenge? Inra

Climate change is expected to advance grapevine phenological stages. Using a degree-days model, we were able to simulate dates of budbreak, flowering and véraison for Riesling and Gewurztraminer, two winegrape varieties grown in Alsace, France. Projected daily temperatures were calculated for the Colmar meteorological station with the ARPEGE-Climat general circulation model using three distinct greenhouse gas emissions scenarios. Compared with its timing in 1976-2008, véraison is predicted to advance by up to 23 days and mean temperatures during the 35 days following véraison are projected to increase by more than 7°C by the end of the twenty-first century for both varieties. Such changes will likely have a significant impact on grape and wine quality....

Le colchique (Colchicwn autunznale) est une plante à alcaloïdes non domestiquée. La colchicine et le colchicoside extraits des graines sont utilisés dans plusieurs médicaments. Un programme de recherche a été développé pour domestiquer cette plante et produire des graines pour l’industrie pharmaceutique. La variabilité inter et infra origine(s) de caractères agronomiques et chimiques aété étudiée. La colchicine, la 3-demethylcolchicine et te colchicoside ont été dosés en chromatographie en phase liquide. This study was conducted to identify physiological traits associated with cold tolerance in sunflower and to identify the genomic regions involved in their variation. A population of 98 recombinant inbred lines(RILs) and their two parentswere sown in the field as usual sowing date (control) and one or two months earlier (long-term low temperature treatments). Genetic variability of carbon isotope discrimination in seedlings from Populus nigra L. populations grown under contrasting temperatures Inra

Climatic events predicted for this century should involve drier and warmer summers, such as those that occurred in 2003 and 2005 in France. The higher temperatures could become a limiting factor for the regeneration of Populus nigra L. species. During establishment and development in summer period, seedlings must be able to resist high temperatures (until 57.8°C on sand on a Loire island in July 2009). Therefore, maintaining a high transpiration rate (E) for leaf cooling (and therefore a high stomatal conductance to water vapour (gs)), may be a prerequisite for seedlings to survive under high temperatures. Short-rotation coppice of hybrid poplar is a promising renewable feedstock for biofuel production. Breeding for high biomass in short-rotation coppice has started only recently. Two hybrid poplar families were grown at two sites in Europe and phenotyped for a variety of biomass-related traits (1) to examine the extent of phenotypic and genetic variation in biomass production, ramification, resprouting, and phenology, (2) to search for genomic regions involved in productivity, and (3) to determine the effect of the environment on the expression of these traits. Salt and genotype impact on plant physiology and root proteome variations in tomato Inra

To evaluate the genotypic variation of salt stress response in tomato, physiological analyses and a proteomic approach have been conducted in parallel on four contrasting tomato genotypes. After a 14 d period of salt stress in hydroponic conditions, the genotypes exhibited different responses in terms of plant growth, particularly root growth, foliar accumulation of Na+, and foliar K/Na ratio. As a whole, Levovil appeared to be the most tolerant genotype while Cervil was the most sensitive one. Roma and Supermarmande exhibited intermediary behaviours. Among the 1300 protein spots reproducibly detected by two-dimensional electrophoresis, 90 exhibited significant abundance variations between samples and were submitted to mass spectrometry for identification....

Objectifs : La variabilité génétique existante chez les cépages de vigne peut affecter leur stratégie d’adaptation à la sécheresse en régulant la transpiration au travers de la fermeture des stomates.
