El análisis presentado en este documento muestra que la magnitud de las inequidades en salud y en la utilización de servicios de salud en el Perú es muy grande, aun para un país con el nivel de desarrollo del Perú. En consecuencia, se plantea que dichas inequidades deben ser abordadas de manera urgente por investigadores y diseñadores de política, tomando en cuenta que la literatura internacional establece cada vez con mayor contundencia que el crecimiento económico no es suficiente para lograr tal objetivo. Earnings Effects of Household Investment in Health in Colombia AgEcon

This study considers the links between primary indicators of health and individual labor productivity in Colombia and explores how additional public expenditures on health may improve individuals’ health. Sample statistics show that illness occurs more frequently for women than for men, for less educated than for more educated, for rural than urban residents, and for older individuals. The well educated are considerably taller than those without schooling (6 cm. for males and 4 cm. for females). The empirical evidence confirms that health indicators are related to individual earnings in Colombia. Mapping cancer, cardiovascular and malaria research in Brazil BJMBR

This paper presents performance indicators for the Brazilian cancer, cardiovascular and malaria research areas from 1981 to 1995. The data show an increasing number of papers since 1981 and author numbers indicate a continuous growth of the scientific community and suggest an expected impact of scientific activity on biomedical education. The data also characterize cardiovascular research as a well-established area and cancer research as a faster growing consolidating field. The 1989-1994 share of Brazilian articles among world publications shows a growing trend for the cancer (1.61) and cardiovascular (1.59) areas, and a decrease for the malaria area (0.89).
