Avaliou-se o efeito da incorporacao da leguminosa feijao-bravo-do-Ceara (Canavalia brasiliensis) e do capim-coloniao (Panicum maximum) sobre o conteudo de C, N e fracoes da materia organica de um solo Podzolico Vermelho-Amarelo e sobre a producao de materia seca e acumulo de N em milho, cultivado em casa de vegetacao por 102 dias. Os tratamentos constaram da adicao de diferentes doses (20, 40 e 60 t.ha) de feijao-bravo e capim-coloniao, alem de N-mineral e do controle. Observou-se incrementos lineares de 0,088 e 0,068 mg C.g. solo, proporcionados pela incorporacao de uma tonelada de feijao-bravo e capim-coloniao, respectivamente. Maize (Zea mays, a C4 plant) stover was incubated in a long-term cultivated soil for 24 months in order to better understand the transformation of crop residues into soil organic matter. Humic fractions, including humin, were isolated using an exhaustive sequential extraction procedure based on the charge density and polarity differences of the humic substances: Repetitive aqueous NaOH extraction was carried out at pH 7, 10.6, 12.6, and with 0.5 M NaOH. Then, an exhaustive 0.1 M NaOH + 6 M urea solution was applied to the soil residue to isolate the soluble 'urea humin' fraction. Organic matter fractions and soil fertility under the influence of liming, vermicompost and cattle manure Scientia Agricola

This work evaluates effects of cattle manure vermicompost in association with liming on soil fertility indexes. The experiment was carried out in greenhouse conditions, in pots containing samples of a Typic Hapludox, medium-textured soil. Five levels of vermicompost (equivalent to 0, 28, 42, 56, and 70 t ha-1, dry weight) and five liming levels (to raise base saturation to 20, 30, 40, 50, and 60%) were combined in a factorial scheme and samples were incubated for 180 days. Samples of the same soil received the equivalent to 70 t ha-1 of the cattle manure used to produce the vermicompost, and the same lime rates. ABSTRACT Archaeological Dark Earth (ADE) pedogenesis and pre-Columbian history are fundamental for understanding the biodiversity and pedodiversity of the Neotropical rainforest in the Amazon region. This study aimed to evaluate the morphological, physical, chemical, and mineralogical properties as well as NaOH-extractable organic matter [OM(NaOH)] in ADE and Mulatto Earth (ME) overlying volcanic rocks along a toposequence (four soil profiles) in western Amazonia, Brazil. Soil organic matter as a function of nitrogen fertilization in crop successions Scientia Agricola

The interdependence between the C and N cycles is reflected by the levels of soil organic matter (SOM). SOM and organic C levels in water soluble (C-WS) humic acids (C-HA), fulvic acids (C-FA), and humin fractions (C-H) were evaluated through the classic chemical fractionation method in samples of a Rhodic Eutrudox from a randomized blocks experimental design, with split-split-plots using five nitrogen sidedressing levels for corn (0; 60; 120; 180; and 240 kg ha-1 N) as the main treatment, two crop sequences (corn-corn and soybean-corn) as the secondary treatment, and two sampling depths (0 to 0.2 and 0.2 to 0.4 m) as a sub-subtreatment.
