Effect of the queen on worker reproduction and new queen production in the bumble bee Bombus terrestris Inra
Lopez-Vaamonde, C.; Brown, R.M.; Lucas, E.R.; Pereboom, J.J.M.; Jordan, W.C.; Bourke, A.F.G..
We tested the hypotheses that a non-volatile pheromone inhibiting worker egg-laying and queen development produced by Bombus terrestris queens has effects transferable (a) from workers to other workers or larvae, or (b) on wax. We subdivided small, young colonies with a single mesh screen (Experiment 1) and larger, older colonies with a double mesh screen (Experiment 2). One treatment (in both experiments) involved the transfer of workers, and one treatment (in Experiment 2 only) involved the transfer of wax, from the queenright to the queenless compartments. Queenlessness induced significantly earlier onset of worker aggression (followed by egg-laying) in all treatments in both experiments, and significantly earlier queen production in all treatments in...

Effects of propiconazole on extra-cellular enzymes involved in nutrient mobilization during Trametes versicolor wood colonization Inra
Lekounougou, S.; Jacquot, J.P.; Gérardin, P.; Gelhaye, É..
The effects of propiconazole on extra-cellular enzyme levels in Trametes versicolor have been investigated during wood colonization and degradation. The working hypothesis was that the biocide could alter metabolic pathways, which could lead to an alteration of extra-cellular enzyme production. In the presence of a propiconazole sub-lethal concentration, the wood degradation rate decrease concomitantly with the lag phase of fungal development observed during wood colonisation. The pattern of production of enzymes involved in polysaccharide degradation (b-glucosidases, glucuronidases, cellobiohydrolases), nitrogen (leucine aminopeptidase) and phosphorus (acid phosphatase) mobilization was only slightly altered in the presence of the biocide. In experiments...

Houndonougbo, B.; Berville, A..

Esterases of the flounder (Platichthys flesus, Pleuronectidae, Teleostei) : development of an identification protocol using starch gel electrophoresis and characterization of loci IRD
Berrebi, P.; Landaud, P.; Borsa, P.; Renno, Jean-François.
Fish esterases are among the most difficult enzymes to identify using starch gel electrophoresis because of the many loci that are simultaneously active, and especially because of duplication phenomena, satellite bands, and stain trails. In an attempt to simplify and clarify electropherograms, various staining and inhibitory methods were tested on esterases from the flounder #Platichthys flesus$. A range of migration and staining buffers and substrates were used, as well as chemical inhibition and heat inactivation. A combination of the methods made it possible to distinguish and characterize the five presumed esterase loci. (Résumé d'auteur)
