As the greatest rainwater users among all vegetative land covers, tree plantations have been employed strategically to mitigate salinity and water-logging problems. However, large-scale commercial tree plantations in high rainfall areas reduce fresh water inflows to river systems supporting downstream communities, agricultural industries and wetland environmental assets. A bio-economic model was used to estimate economic demand for water by future upstream plantations in a sub-catchment (the 2.8 million ha Macquarie valley in NSW) of the Murray-Darling Basin, Australia. Double trouble: The importance of accounting for and defining water entitlements consistent with hydrological realities (Conference title: Water Trading in the MDBC: How well is the market functioning?) AgEcon

When water entitlement and water sharing systems are mis-specified, that is specified in a manner that lacks hydrological integrity, inefficient investment and water use is the result. Using Australia's Murray Darling Basin as an example, this paper attempts to reveal the economic consequences of entitlement mis-specification. Options for specification of entitlement and allocation systems in a way that has hydrological integrity are presented. It is reasoned, that if entitlement and allocation system were set up in this manner the result would be an efficient allocation regime that would autonomously adjust to climatic shifts, changes in prices and changes in technology whilst maintaining environmental integrity.

[[abstract]]Two case studies, including Techi reservoir located at Taichung county, central Taiwan, and Feitsui reservoir located at Taipei county, northern Taiwan, were selected to study the effect of nutrient interception by a riparian forest buffer strip receiving the adjacent orchard region by applying the high and low quantity of chemical fertilizers, respectively. The widths of riparian forest buffer strip are at least 50 meters in these two case study sites. The composition, spatial variability and seasonal changes of cations and anions in soil solution collecting from orchard, interface and riparian buffer zones were analyzed to control the water quality in two water reservoirs. ABSTRACT: A procedure to estimate the center pivot maximum application rate, based on equipment and soil characteristic is presented. It was developed to minimize the surface runoff. To achieve this objective, the Green and Ampt (GA) infiltration equation was modified to include surface sealing and surface storage. The highest application rate is determined by solving a system of equations which incout to application rate and its derivative and the GA and its derivative. Sensitivit analysis showed that the procedure represented adequately the variation in the main parameters that interfere in the value of the maximum application rate. O objetivo com este trabalho foi avaliar o valor nutritivo dos capins Quênia e Tamani sob diferentes intensidades de desfolhação. O experimento foi realizado na Embrapa Agrossilvipastoril, Sinop ? MT, este seguiu delineamento experimental em blocos completos casualizados, em arranjo fatorial (2x2), com dois cultivares: Quênia e Tamani (Panicum maximum cvs. BRS Tamani e Quênia) e duas intensidades de pastejo: alta e baixa, definidas pela altura pós-pastejo de 15 e 25 cm para capim-tamani; e 20 cm e 35 cm para capim-quênia, com três repetições, totalizando 12 unidades...
