Background: Whole-genome physical maps facilitate genome sequencing, sequence assembly, mapping of candidate genes, and the design of targeted genetic markers. An automated protocol was used to construct a Vitis vinifera 'Cabernet Sauvignon' physical map. The quality of the result was addressed with regard to the effect of high heterozygosity on the accuracy of contig assembly. Its usefulness for the genome-wide mapping of genes for disease resistance, which is an important trait for grapevine, was then assessed. Background: Diversity patterns of livestock species are informative to the history of agriculture and indicate uniqueness ofbreeds as relevant for conservation. So far, most studies on cattle have focused on mitochondrial and autosomal DNAvariation. Previous studies of Y-chromosomal variation, with limited breed panels, identified two Bos taurus (taurine)haplogroups (Y1 and Y2; both composed of several haplotypes) and one Bos indicus (indicine/zebu) haplogroup (Y3), as wellas a strong phylogeographic structuring of paternal lineages.Methodology and Principal Findings: Haplogroup data were collected for 2087 animals from 138 breeds. Etude du groupe de liaison Hal, Phi et Pgd chez le Porc : disposition relative des trois locus et estimation des taux de recombinaison Inra

Des croisements destinés à étudier la transmission des combinaisons alléliques aux locus de la sensibilité à l’halothane (Hal), de la phosphohexose isomérase (Phi) et de la 6-phosphogluconate déshydrogénase (Pgd) ont été réalisés dans un troupeau expérimental de porcs de Piétrain. Parmi les descendants de 54 croisements, 3 animaux ont reçu des combinaisons alléliques absentes chez leurs parents. Ces cas de recombinaison conduisent à proposer comme ordre le plus probable Hal - Phi - Pgd avec des distances de 0,73 cM (centimorgan) entre Hal et Phi, 0,56 cM entre Phi et Pgd, et 1,18 cM entre Hal et Pgd.

White poplar (Populus alba L.) is native toEurasia and is unexploited for its growth potential andstress-adaptive mechanisms. A better knowledge of itsgenome will allow for more effective protection and use ofcritical genetic resources. Mapping of plumage colour and blood protein loci on the microsatellite linkage map of the Japanese quail Inra

The objective of this work was to map classical markers (plumage colours and blood proteins)on the microsatellite linkage map of the Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica). The segregationdata on two plumage colours and three blood proteins were obtained from25 three-generation families (193 F2 birds). Linkage analysis was carried out for these fiveclassical markers and 80 microsatellite markers. A total of 15 linkage groups that includedthe five classical loci and 69 of the 80 microsatellite markers were constructed. During the last decade, numerous microsatellite markers were developed for genotyping and to identify closely related plant genotypes. In citrus, previously developed microsatellite markers were arisen from genomic libraries and more often located in non coding DNA sequences. To optimize the use of these EST-SSRs as genetic markers in genome mapping programs and citrus systematic analysis, we have investigated their polymorphism related to the type (di or trinucleotide) or their position in the coding sequences.
