Battle in the new world: Helicoverpa armigera versus Helicoverpa zea (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). Repositório Alice
BENTIVENHA, J. P. F.; PAULA-MORAES, S. V.; BALDIN, E. L. L.; SPECHT, A.; SILVA, I. F. da; HUNT, T. E..
Abstract: The corn earworm Helicoverpa zea (Boddie) and the old world bollworm Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) are allopatric species and occur in important agricultural crops. In maize, both species tend to infest the ear. The introduction of H. armigera in Brazil has created a new scenario, where these Helicoverpa species might cohabit and interact with one another, affecting the prevalence of each species in the agroecosystem, integrated pest management, and insect resistance management. In this study, larval occurrence and proportion of these species in maize was assessed in three regions of Brazil during three crop seasons. Interaction between the species was evaluated in interspecific and intraspecific scenarios under...

Predatory capacity of Euborellia annulipes (Lucas, 1847) on Spodoptera frugiperda (Smith, 1797) - DOI: 10.4025/actasciagron.v31i1.6602 Agronomy
Silva, Aldeni Barbosa da; UFPB; Batista, Jacinto de Luna; UFPB; Brito, Carlos Henrique de; UFPB.
The predatory capacity of Euborellia annulipes on Spodoptera frugiperda was studied in a laboratory setting. The study was conducted in the Laboratory of Entomology of the Division of Plant Protection, Federal University of Paraíba (UFPB) at a temperature of 25 ± 1°C, relative humidity of 70 + 10% and a 12-hour photophase. The study detected growing egg intake, with an average daily consumption of 11.06, 49.02, 122.7, 148.09 and 374.9 eggs, from the first to the fifth instars, respectively. A predatory capacity of fist-instar larvae of S. frugiperda increased in line with its development, with an increase of approximately 14.3 times from the first to the fifth instar, in the 10 days of consumption, whereas the fourth and fifth instars presented an average...
