Absorção e distribuição de cádmio e micronutrientes em cultivares de feijoeiro expostas a doses de cádmio. Repositório Alice
NASCIMENTO, C. W. A. do; PEREIRA, J. B. M..

Diffuse urban pollution increases metal tolerance of natural heterotrophic biofilms ArchiMer
Fechner, Lise C.; Gourlay-france, Catherine; Bourgeault, Adeline; Tusseau-vuillemin, Marie-helene.
This study is a first attempt to investigate the impact of urban contamination on metal tolerance of heterotrophic river biofilms using a short-term test based on beta-glucosidase activity. Tolerance levels to Cu, Cd, Zn, Ni and Pb were evaluated for biofilms collected at three sites along an urban gradient in the Seine river (France). Metallic pollution increased along the river, but concentrations remained low compared to environmental quality standards. Biofilm metal tolerance increased downstream from the urban area. Multivariate analysis confirmed the correlation between tolerance and contamination and between multi-metallic and physico-chemical gradients. Therefore, tolerance levels have to be interpreted in relation to the whole chemical and...

Heavy metal tolerance (Cr, Ag and Hg) in bacteria isolated from sewage BJM
Lima e Silva,Agostinho A. de; Carvalho,Márcia A. Ribeiro de; Souza,Sérgio A. L de; Dias,Patrícia M. Teixeira; Silva Filho,Renato G. da; Saramago,Carmen S. de Meirelles; Bento,Cleonice A. de Melo; Hofer,Ernesto.
Samples of sewage from a university hospital and a chemistry technical school were analysed for the percentage of bacterial tolerance to chromium (Cr), silver (Ag) and mercury (Hg). Additionally, we investigated the effect of these metals on pigmentation and on some enzymatic activities of the metal tolerant strains isolated, as well as antimicrobial resistance in some metal tolerant Enterobacteriaceae strains. Tolerance to Cr was observed mainly in Gram positive bacteria while in the case of Ag and Hg the tolerant bacteria were predominately Gram negative. Hg was the metal for which the percentage of tolerance was significantly higher, especially in samples from the hospital sewage (4.1%). Mercury also had the most discernible effect on color of the...

Linking community tolerance and structure with low metallic contamination: a field study on 13 biofilms sampled across the Seine river basin ArchiMer
Fechner, Lise C.; Gourlay-france, Catherine; Tusseau-vuillemin, Marie-helene.
It is difficult to assess the biological consequences of diffuse water contamination by micropollutants which are present in rivers at low, even sublethal levels. River biofilms, which respond quickly to changes of environmental parameters, are good candidates to acquire knowledge on the response of aquatic organisms to diffuse chemical contamination in the field. The study was designed as an attempt to link biofilm metal tolerance and metallic contamination in a field survey covering 13 different sampling sites in the Seine river basin (north of France) with low contamination levels. Cd and Zn tolerance of heterotrophic communities was assessed using a short-term toxicity test based on β-glucosidase activity. Metal tolerance levels varied between sites...

Physiological features of Halomonas lionensis sp. nov., a novel bacterium isolated from a Mediterranean Sea sediment ArchiMer
Gaboyer, Frederic; Vandenabeele-trambouze, Odile; Cao, Junwei; Ciobanu, Maria-cristina; Jebbar, Mohamed; Le Romancer, Marc; Alain, Karine.
A novel halophilic bacterium, strain RHS90T, was isolated from marine sediments from the Gulf of Lions, in the Mediterranean Sea. Its metabolic and physiological characteristics were examined under various cultural conditions, including exposure to stressful ones (oligotrophy, high pressure and high concentrations of metals). Based on phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene, the strain was found to belong to the genus Halomonas in the class Gammaproteobacteria. Its closest relatives are H. axialensis and H. meridiana (98% similarity). DNA-DNA hybridizations indicated that the novel isolate is genotypically distinct from these species. The DNA G+C content of the strain is 54.4 mol%. The main fatty acids (C18:1ω7c, 2-OH iso-C15:0, C16:0 and/or C19:0 cyclo...

Role of ferritin in the rice tolerance to iron overload Scientia Agricola
Silveira,Vivian Chagas da; Fadanelli,Cristina; Sperotto,Raul Antonio; Stein,Ricardo José; Basso,Luiz Augusto; Santos,Diógenes Santiago; Vaz Junior,Itabajara da Silva; Dias,Johnny Ferraz; Fett,Janette Palma.
Plants ordinarily face iron (Fe) deficiency, since this mineral is poorly available in soils under aerobic conditions. Nonetheless, wetland and irrigated rice plants can be exposed to excess, highly toxic Fe. Ferritin is a ubiquitous Fe-storage protein, important for iron homeostasis. Increased ferritin accumulation resulting from higher Fe availability was shown in some plant species. However, the role of ferritin in tolerance mechanisms to Fe overload in rice is yet to be established. In this study, recombinant rice ferritin was expressed in Escherichia coli, producing an anti-rice ferritin polyclonal antibody which was used to evaluate ferritin accumulation in two rice (Oryza sativa L.) cultivars, either susceptible (BR-IRGA 409) or tolerant (EPAGRI...
