Architectural analysis of herbaceous crop species: A comparative study of maize (Zea mays L.) and garden pea (Pisum sativum L.) Inra

Cet article présente une illustration des premiers acquis de l’application de l’analyse architecturale, initialement développée pour les ligneux, à des espèces herbacées cultivées, à partir de la comparaison de deux espèces, le maïs (Zea mays L.) et le pois (Pisum sativum L.). Malgré d’évidentes différences physionomiques, des similitudes de développement architectural, correspondant à des concepts d’analyse architecturale, existent. La signification de ces résultats pour la modélisation architecturale, l’agrophysiologie et l’architecture des plantes sont discutées. De la connaissance du comportement physique et mecanique des sols de l'Est de la France Inra

Une caractérisation du comportement mécanique des grands types de sols de la région Est de la France a été réalisée en condition standard, au laboratoire. Les auteurs ont étudié les courbes de compactage des sols, leur sensibilité au tassement, définie par la pente moyenne ∆pd/∆W des courbes Proctor, et leur domaine de plasticité, mesuré à partir des limites d’Atterberg (limite de liquidité, limite de plasticité). Les résultats obtenus confirment quelques relations statistiques connues entre des paramètres de constitution (matière organique, granulométrie) et les résultats de ces tests de comportement mécanique. Ils ont d’autre part permis de préciser l’influence de paramètres supplémentaires (C/N, amorphes, calcaire...) sur ce même comportement....

Mating-induced transient inhibition of responses to sex pheromone in a male moth is not mediated by octopamine or serotonin Inra

In the male moth, Agrotis ipsilon, mating induces a transient inhibition of behavioural and central nervous responses to sex pheromone. Newly mated males are not attracted to sex pheromone, and the sensitivity of their antennal lobe (AL) neurons is lower than in virgin males. This rapid transient olfactory inhibition prevents them from re-mating unsuccessfully until they have refilled their sex glands. We hypothesized that this olfactory ‘switch off’ might be controlled by neuromodulators such as biogenic amines. Plasticity of growth and sylleptic branchiness in two poplar families grown at three sites across Europe Inra

Two hybrid poplar maternal half-sib families, resulting from controlled crosses of the female parent Populus deltoides ‘S9-2’ with P. nigra ‘Ghoy’ and P. trichocarpa ‘V24’, were grown at three sites: northern Italy, central France and southern England. Post-mating sexual abstinence in a male moth Inra

In most animals, male copulation is dependent on the detection and processing of female-produced sex pheromones. In males, a refractory post-ejaculatory interval (PEI) follows copulation, allowing them to avoid direct remating until they have replenished their reproductive tracts. In the moth Agrotis ipsilon, newly mated males show a transient inhibition of behavioral and central nervous responses to sex pheromone. Using nonpheromonal (plant) odors, pheromones and their mixture, we now show that the observed lack of pheromone response originates from differential post-mating odor processing in the brain. QTL analysis for leaf gas exchange in an apple progeny grown under atmospheric constraints Inra

The capacity of the apple tree to tolerate temporary abiotic constraints was investigated through leaf responses to different vapor pressure deficits (VPD). A ‘Starkrimson’ x ‘Granny Smith’ F1 progeny of 125 full-sibs whip-grafted onto Pajam® 2 rootstocks and pot-cultivated was studied (three replicates). After two months, plants were transferred into a controlled environment chamber ensuring five increasing VPDs, from 0.7 to 2.7 kPa, other conditions remaining constant. La sensibilité de la photosynthèse à des températures élevées a été étudiée chez cinq espèces de chênes: trois méditerranéennes (Quercus canariensis Willd., Q. coccifera L. et Q. suber L.) et deux tempérées (Q. robur L. et Q. petraea Matt. Liebl.). La sensibilité aux fortes températures était estimée suivant la procédure des courbes F0T par la température critique (Tc) au dessus de la quelle la fluorescence de base de la chlorophylle (F0) augmente rapidement. BackgroundFlexible genomes facilitate bacterial evolution and are classically organized into polymorphic strain-specific segments called regions of genomic plasticity (RGPs). Using a new web tool, RGPFinder, we investigated plasticity units in bacterial genomes, by exhaustive description of the RGPs in two Photorhabdus and two Xenorhabdus strains, belonging to the Enterobacteriaceae and interacting with invertebrates (insects and nematodes).ResultsRGPs account for about 60% of the genome in each of the four genomes studied.
