A disease whose severity seems directly bound to conditions of cultivation can cause a heavy mortality in the common prawn Palaemon serratus (Pennant) at molting. The causative agent, A. rodor, is a ciliate, a common external parasite whose life cycle is adapted to the molting cycle of the shrimp. The principal factors favorable to the development of the parasite were studied: age of the host, water temp, numbers of shrimps as a function of the quantity of water and its renewal. Three mollusc species are cultured commercially in Australian tropical and warm temperate waters: the Sydney rock oyster Saccostrea commercialis , the pearl rock oyster is susceptible to two protozoans: Marteilia sydneyi , which is the cause of QX Disease and infects oysters during the summer; and Mikrocytos roughleyi which is associated with winter mortality. This paper is a contribution to the study of the Bonamia ostreae epizooty in french european oyster Ostrea edulis : parasite process (hemocytic parasitosis); experimental contaminations on parks and in tanks. First results of an epidemiological watch conducted in oyster culture sites show in molluks mytilidae, pectinidae, cardiidae, veneridae: the absence of Bonamia ostreae forms; the existence of different types of parasitism or commensalisus of inequal pathological importance and especially a parasite of the Marteilia genus in Tapes sp . digestive epithelium. Additionally, a new example of hemocytosercoma is observed in Cerastoderma edule .

Influence d'un parasite haemarophagen: Lernalocera bronchialis (L., 1767) (Crustacea, Copepoda, (Pennellidae), sur les constances erythrocytaires de son hote Merluccius merluccius (L., 1758) ArchiMer

A hematological study of erythrocytic constants of a teleost fish, the European hake Merluccius merluccius has been undertaken to evaluate the effect of infestation by the branchial parasitic copepode: Lernaeocera branchialis . As the levels of parasitic infestation increased: a normocytic, normochromic anaemia when fish had one adult female parasite present, a microcytic anaemia when between 2 and 4 adult females were found and a macrocytic anaemia when at least 5 adult females were present. There was no significant difference in body condition or the coefficient of spleen to body weight between the control sample and samples of individuals infested by Lernaeocera branchialis.

Les parasites d'Arnoglossus laterna (Walbaum, 1792), Bothidae, dans le golfe du Lion (cote francaise de la Mediterranee) et leur influence sur les formules leucocytaires des poissons hotes ArchiMer

Arnoglossus laterna is only infested by intestinal parasites. Each parasite distribution is independent of the distribution of other parasites and also independent of the sex of host. When a fish is infested by a great number of the two helminths Acanthocephaloides and Bothriocephalus clavibothrium , the proportion of lymphocytes tends to decrease and the proportion of neutrophils tends to increase (inflammatory response). Important infestation by Scolex pleuronectis induces an increase of the thrombocyte count for 100 counted leucocytes. After infestation by the nematode Thynnascaris sp. alone or with another parasite, even by small number, the proportion of lymphocytes decreases and the proportion of neutrophils increases.

L'interaction hôte-parasite en aquaculture : cas du charax, diplodus puntazzo (pisces, sparidae) infesté par myxidium leei (myxozoa) OceanDocs

Un échantillonnage de poissons parasités (Diplodus puntazzo) en provenance d’une firme aquacole située au Sud-est de la Corse (Ouest méditerranéen) montre une infestation due à un Myxidium leei. Le parasite envahit l’épithélium intestinal causant amaigrissement du poisson et une forte mortalité. Les spécimens de plus de 16 cm de longueur totale étaient significativement moins infestés. Toutefois, l’infestation ne montre pas de différence significative entre mâles et femelles quelle que soit la taille des spécimens. Quelques paramètres hématologiques ont été utilisés pour montrer le rôle du parasite dans cette maladie de poissons et statuer sur l’interaction hôte-parasite.

The finfish species reared in marine intensive conditions in the French Caribbean Islands are imported (European seabass, American red drum and Oreochromis hybrids) or local (Carangids and Lutjanids) species. The European seabass (Dicentrarchus labrax ) is susceptible, during its first year of life, to a contagious disease characterized by whirling and hyperexcitability, associated with severe lesions of the brain, viral particles being pointed out in the damaged nervous cells.

In 1983, the parasitism of Mytilus edulis L. by Proctoeces maculatus (Loose, 1901) Odhner, 1911 (Trematoda, Digenea, Fellodistomatidae), was recorded for the first time by the authors from mussels farming on stakes (Western Cotentin). After analysing the distribution of the prevalence on the shore and bibliographical data, it was suggested that this parasite must follow a biological cycle that had never been observed on the French coasts and that the most probable host of eggs producer - adult or progenetic metacercaria - would not be a fish but the Prosobranch Gasteropod Nucella lapillus . The life cycle of <i>Anguillicola crassus</i> OMA

For some years now the parasitic swim bladder nematode <i>Anguillicola crassus</i> of the European eel <i>Anguilla anguilla</i> L., has been reported from several European countries. The entire life history of this parasite has recently been elucidated in our laboratory. Young larvae leave the swim bladder of the host via the pneumatic duct and reach the water through the digestive tract. They are ingested by small copepods (Cyclopoida), which act as intermediate hosts. Larvae remain in the hemocoel until the copepods are eaten by the final host, the European eel.
