A Framework for Evaluating Return on Investment in Management Development Programs AgEcon
Lynch, Kara; Akridge, Jay T.; Schaffer, Scott P.; Gray, Allan W..
Return on Investment (ROI) is a financial metric that can be used to evaluate training and development investments. The objective of this research is to develop an evaluation process using ROI to assess the financial performance of management development programs. A three-phase model for ROI evaluation is presented. These phases include assessment planning, data collection, and data analysis. This model is then tested and applied to a management development program. This paper provides a template for ROI evaluation that can be used to evaluate a wide variety of training and development activities by food and agribusiness firms.

A PRECÍZIÓS GAZDÁLKODÁS ÖKONÓMIAI ÉRTÉKELÉSE AgEcon
Lencses, Eniko.
The competitive agriculture is needed for higher productivity, technological and technical renewal. The one form of the technical renewal may is the precision agriculture. Precision agriculture reduce the environmental load of agriculture apart from the fact that higher investment and operation costs. This is the reason why the carefully thought-out investment strategy is necessary. A wrong investment strategy is wavering the company. In the centre of my analysis of precision agriculture there are the costs of necessary equipments or cost of supply. The main cornerstones of the analysis are: income and cost analysis, comparison of extra costs, and break-even point analysis. During my research I give countenance to that suitable to install the precision...

Smuk, Norbert; Milics, Gabor; Salamon, Lajos; Nemenyi, Miklos.
--Return on investment in projects for implementing precision farming is closely related to farm size. In the event of the envisaged repayment over five or six years, farms with a larger area can balance changes in yield or interest rate.

Establishing a Cotton-Ginning Cooperative in the Southeast AgEcon
Simon, Donald M.; Garland, William R.; Halkett, Jan.
The producer-members of the proposed Albemarle Cotton Growers Cooperative presently experience costly and dangerous conditions in transporting seed cotton to distant ginning sites. These growers seek to acquire locally a cooperatively owned and operated cotton gin. This study of the proposed venture reports on producer surveys and financial projections, and estimates member benefits and return on investment. This cotton-ginning cooperative may considerably improve the net farm incomes of local producers. The feasibility analysis concludes that it is possible for these North Carolina growers to earn a respectable return on their cooperative investment. However, firm volume and equity commitments on the part of growers will be required. This study may be...

SOME ECONOMIC ASPECTS OF THE HUNGARIAN BIOFUEL PROGRAMS AgEcon
Lakner, Zoltan; Szabo-Burcsi, Dora; Mago, Laszlo.
The use of renewable materials in energy production is gaining in importance all over the world. The production of bioethanol and biodiesel is an important element of the agricultural strategy of numerous countries, even though the economic and environmental impact of these projects is subject to significant debates. Our paper analyses the welfare effects of the Hungarian bioethanol programme, as well as the economic feasibility of the projects. It can be demonstrated that the Hungarian bioethanol programme will cause a rather marginal increase in agricultural prices. The cost of bioethanol production is estimated between 470 and 630 €/m3, influenced by numerous factors. This estimate is in line with the average European values. The possibilities for...

The Growth and Direction of the Biodiesel Industry in the United States AgEcon
Paulson, Nicholas D.; Ginder, Roger G..
The biodiesel industry in the United States has realized significant growth over the past decade through large increases in annual production and production capacity and a transition from smaller batch plants to larger-scale continuous producers. The larger, continuous-flow plants provide operating cost advantages over the smaller batch plants through their ability to capture co-products and reuse certain components in the production process. This paper uses a simple capital budgeting model developed by the authors along with production data supplied by industry sources to estimate production costs, return-on-investment levels, and break-even conditions for two common plant sizes (30 and 60 million gallon annual capacities) over a range of biodiesel and...
