Early systemic arterial hypotension is a common clinical feature of Pseudomonas septicemia. Defined by the Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS), which is secondary to an infectious agent, sepsis is a common affection in dogs and cats, being related to high morbidity and mortality rates in these species. The pathogenesis is multifactorial and complex. Hemodynamic instability is being identified as a key factor for the high mortality rate, since it causes hypoxia and subsequent multiple organ dysfunction. The treatment consists of goal-oriented therapy and the primary objective is to restore the circulatory balance through the infusion of large amounts of fluid. La sepsis como estresor: asociación con los niveles séricos de cortisol, proteína C reactiva e interleuquina1beta ABCL

El estrés tiene alta prevalencia en el mundo; una de sus causas es la sepsis. Durante la misma, se liberan citoquinas que activan el eje hipotálamo-hipofiso suprarrenal (HHS) elevándose el cortisol y proteínas de fase aguda. El objetivo de este trabajo fue analizar el efecto de la sepsis sobre el eje HHS a través del cortisol, y asociarlo con interleuquina 1 beta (IL1-beta) y proteína C reactiva (PCR). Se dosó cortisol por electroquimioluminscencia, PCR por inmunoturbidimetría e IL1-beta por ELISA en sueros de pacientes sépticos (S, n=40) y no sépticos (NS, n=21). Approximately, half of the patients with progressive sepsis develop encephalopathy, but there is scarce knowledge onto question that how the sepsis associated encephalopathy contributes brain dysfunction. Hippocampus is one of the most vulnerable regions during experimental sepsis. In the present study, effects of sepsis on the neuronal density and morphology in CA1, CA3 and DG areas were investigated in a rat model of intraperitoneal sepsis. Twenty-four Wistar rats were divided into three different groups: faecal peritonitis group, sham-operated and un-operated control groups. It is strongly related to number of systems with failure, type of system involved, risk factors such as age, previous chronic diseases, delayed or inadequate resuscitation, persistent infection, immune suppression, and others. Utilidad de la procalcitonina y proteina C reactiva en la unidad de terapia intensiva pediatrica ABCL

El objetivo de este trabajo fue evaluar la utilidad de la Procalcitonina (PCT) y Proteina C Reactiva (PCR) en pacientes pediatricos con sospecha de infeccion bacteriana o sepsis al ingreso a la Unidad de Terapia Intensiva Pediatrica (UTIP) y posterior seguimiento como pronostico de internacion prolongada o muerte en un hospital de tercer nivel. Se realizo un estudio prospectivo observacional, unicentrico. Punto final primario: se considero un punto final combinado de muerte hospitalaria o internacion prolongada en la UTIP (mayor de 12 dias). Se dosaron Procalcitonina (VIDASR BRAHMS PCT) y PCR (Ensayo turbidimetrico BT 3000) al ingreso y al tercer dia de internacion y se calculo el aclaramiento de ambos marcadores.
