A structural model of wealth, obesity and health in the UK AgEcon
Mazzocchi, Mario; Traill, W. Bruce.
Based on a household health production framework, this paper exploits the combination of socioeconomic, health and nutrition information from the UK National Diet and Nutrition Survey to analyze the endogenous relationship among wealth, nutrition, weight and the final health outcomes. Results show that higher wealth determines lower weight and better health as expected, but through a better diet rather than extra exercise or lower calorie consumption.

Producers’ motivation for collective action for kola production and marketing in Cameroon JARTS
Gyau, Amos; Takoutsing, Bertin; Degrande, Ann; Franzel, Steven.
Collective action has been used as a strategy to improve the benefits of smallholder producers of kola nuts in Cameroon. Despite demonstrated benefits, not all producers are involved in the collective action. The presented study used a modified Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) namely the Collective Action Behaviour model (CAB model) to analyse kola producers’ motivation for collective action activities. Five hypotheses are formulated and tested using data obtained from 185 farmers who are involved in kola production and marketing in theWestern highlands of Cameroon. Results which were generated using Partial Least Squares (PLS) approach for Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) showed that farmers’ intrinsic motivators and ease of use influenced their...

Structural Equation Modelling of Consumer Acceptance of Genetically Modified Food (GM) in the Mediterranean Europe: Spain, Greece and Italy. AgEcon
Costa-Font, Montserrat; Gil, Jose Maria.
The inception of genetic modification (GM) techniques in food production conveys both opportunities - improve food production technologies and/or product differentiation - and risks - dread of a change of the technological status quo, ambiguity in the food properties..…. Hence, some research has been devoted a careful understanding of consumer's reactions towards to GM food. However, unavoidably individual's perceptions involve taking into account several factors at a time that cannot be taken as given or exogenous such as traditional food values and trust in information sources primarily. This paper contributes to the literature by examining the behavioural process that drives individual's perceptions to GM food using a methodology that allows accounting...

STRUCTURAL EQUATION MODELS FOR THE HIERARCHIZATION OF ACTIVITIES IN THE SUPPLY AND DISTRIBUTION OF ORIGIN-CERTIFIED FOODS AgEcon
Sanchez Garcia, Mercedes; Barrena Figueroa, Ramo.
A quality differentiation strategy for agrifood products based on geographical origin and production method has become a viable alternative for certain firms in the internationalized food markets, if it could be considered as a rural development instrument. This method of adding value to their products nevertheless requires them to take into account not only objective factors, which tend to be related to product characteristics, but also subjective factors that are more closely linked to consumers’ assessment of their differentiating features and the factors that influence that assessment. The study confirms using various structural equation models the key impact of consumers’ attitudes towards these products (image) on final purchase behaviour. The...
