Biosurfactant production by Phialemonium sp. using agroindustrial wastes: influence of culture conditions Biological Sciences

Biosurfactant are surface active compounds with emulsifying capacity and are produced by microorganisms, and they may be affected by factors related to microbial cultivation, such as pH, salinity, incubation time, carbon and nitrogen sources. The aim of this work was to study the influence of the culture conditions on the production of biosurfactants by Phialemonium sp using agroindustrial wastes. The processing parameters of temperature, humidity and pH produced the most significant effects on the production of biosurfactant and emulsifying activity. The maximum concentration of biosurfactant obtained in this study was equivalent to a surface tension reduction of 8.5 mg L-1 surfactin commercial solution using wheat bran, pH of 4.5, and 0.5% of soybean oil...

Effets létaux et sublétaux à long terme d'un nonylphénol polyéthoxyle, le NP 5 sur la civelle ArchiMer

Studying different concentrations, we have determined LT 50 of a non-ionic surfactant on elver eel: the polyoxyethylated nonylphenol NP 5. Then we studied sorne sublethal effects on fish behaviour and histological effects on gills, during 21 days. We demonstrated primary effects on gills structure and we believe in an impairing of the central nervous system.

FACTORS INFLUENCING THE RESPONSES OF Tetranychus urticae Koch (ACARINA: TETRANYCHIDAE) TO THURINGIENSIN Agricultura Técnica

The effects of temperature, host plant, active ingredient mobility, surfactant, residue age and larval age on the response of Tetranychus urticae Koch to thuringiensin were evaluated in laboratory bioassays. T. urticae larvae were significantly more susceptible to thuringiensin at 13°C than at 28°C. A significantly different response of T. urticae larvae to thuringiensin residues was found on peach and apple leaves. Older T. urticae larvae were significantly more susceptible than younger larvae when exposed to thuringiensin residues. No systemic or translaminar effects of thuringiensin were detected; the leaf surface (upper or lower) and the addition of Silwet L-77 surfactant did not affect the efficacy of thuringiensin.
