Bilan des tempêtes de l’hiver 2013-2014 sur la dynamique de recul du trait de côte en Bretagne ArchiMer

Between December 2013 and March 2014, a cluster of about 12 storm events hit the coast of Brittany with an exceptional frequency. It was in February that these storm events were the most frequent and particularly virulent. The significant wave heights measured off Finistere reached respectively 12.3 m and 12.4 m during Petra and Ulla storms on February 5 and 14. However, analysis of hydrodynamic conditions shows that only three episodes promoted extreme morphogenetic conditions because they were combined with high spring tide level. The first one occurred on January 1 to 4, it was followed by events from February 1 to 3, and March 2-3. During these three extreme events observed tide levels were above highest astronomical tide level (HAT). Maximum surge...

Le projet Equipex NAOS : l'observation globale des océans Préparation de la nouvelle décennie d'Argo ArchiMer
Le Traon, Pierre-yves; D'Ortenzio, Fabrizio; Babin, Marcel; Claustre, Hervé; Pouliquen, Sylvie; Le Reste, Serge; Thierry, Virginie; Brault, Patrice; Guigue, Michel; Le Menn, Marc.
NAOS (Novel Argo Ocean observing System) is one of the 52 projects selected as part of the Equipex call for proposals from the French programme d'investissements d'avenir. The overall objective of the project is to consolidate and improve the French and European contribution to the international Argo observing system and to prepare the next decade of Argo. The challenge is to set up an effective monitoring of the world ocean and to strengthen French leadership in ocean and climate research and prediction.

Numerical study of sedimentary impact of a storm on a sand beach simulated by hydrodynamic and sedimentary models ArchiMer
Meule, S; Pinazo, C; Degiovanni, C; Barusseau, Jp; Libes, M.
In marine coastal environments, storms have a major morphological impact on sand beaches. This study, part of the French Programme National d'Environnement Cotier, consisted in developing and applying hydrodynamic and sedimentary models to simulate the major processes that modify sand beaches. In order to study sediment dynamics, we developed three models to simulate waves, currents and sediment transport associated with a storm event. The wave model was a Mild Slope Equation model based on the parabolic approximation of the refraction-diffraction equation of Berkhoff. The hydrodynamic model was obtained by the depth-average of Navier Stockes' equations forced by the terms of radiation stresses induced by waves. The sedimentary model SEDSIM developed by...
