Development and quality of pineapple guava fruit in two locations with different altitudes in Cundinamarca, Colombia Bragantia
Parra-Coronado,Alfonso; Fischer,Gerhard; Camacho-Tamayo,Jesús Hernán.
Fruit growth is stimulated by different weather conditions. The aim of this study was to determine the influence of weather conditions on the physicochemical properties of pineapple guava fruit growth. Twenty trees were marked in two production areas located at different altitudes (1,800 and 2,580 m.a.s.l.), and measurements were performed every 7 days from 99 and 141 days post-anthesis to harvest at altitudes of 1,800 and 2,580 m.a.s.l., respectively. The results indicate that altitude and weather conditions greatly influence the growth and development of pineapple guava fruit, and these effects are primarily manifested in the physical characteristics of the fruit. The weight and size of the fruit at harvest are directly related to the altitude of the...

Solubilization of CaHPO4 and AlPO4 by Aspergillus niger in culture media with different carbon and nitrogen sources BJM
Barroso,Cinthya Babá; Pereira,Gener Tadeu; Nahas,Ely.
The solubilization of inorganic phosphates by microorganisms supplies phosphates for plant nutrition and increases their growth. The solubilization of CaHPO4 (Ca-P) and AlPO4 (Al-P) by Aspergillus niger using several carbon and nitrogen sources was studied. Solubilization of Ca-P was enhanced when the carbon sources were mannitol, maltose, galactose and glucose (in that order). Galactose, sucrose and maltose were the carbon sources that enhanced the solubilization of Al-P. More extensive growth, acid production, and decrease in pH were obtained in the Al-P medium than in the Ca-P medium, however, the quantity of solubilized phosphate was 12% less. Phosphate solubilization was related to acid production, pH drop and fungal growth in the culture medium. The...

Study of urinary acidification in patients with idiopathic hypocitraturia BJMBR
Araújo,N.C.; Rebelo,M.A.P..
Hypocitraturia (HCit) is one of the most remarkable features of renal tubular acidosis, but an acidification defect is not seen in the majority of hypocitraturic patients, whose disease is denoted idiopathic hypocitraturia. In order to assess the integrity of urinary acidification mechanisms in hypocitraturic idiopathic calcium stone formers, we studied two groups of patients, hypocitraturic (HCit, N = 21, 39.5 ± 11.5 years, 11 females and 10 males) and normocitraturic (NCit, N = 23, 40.2 ± 11.7 years, 16 females and 7 males) subjects, during a short ammonium chloride loading test lasting 8 h. During the baseline period HCit patients showed significantly higher levels of titratable acid (TA). After the administration of ammonium chloride, mean urinary pH...

Y-shaped and fruiting wall peach orchard training system in subtropical Brazil Bragantia
Sobierajski,Graciela da Rocha; Silva,Taiane Santos; Hernandes,José Luiz; Pedro Júnior,Mário José.
ASBTRACT Peach as commercial crop in Brazil is usually grown in open vase training system. However, in the 1970s large orchards changed to the Y-shaped system and higher density of plants. This system is the most used in São Paulo state because it allows orchard densification. However, the longevity of the trees is reduced from 15 to 8 years being the excessive exposure of internal branches to solar radiation the main reason for the reduction. Aiming to offer new alternatives of training system for peach, an experiment was carried out to evaluate the fruiting wall in comparison to Y-shaped, using the cultivar Tropic Beauty budded onto cultivar Okinawa. Ten plants by treatment were used as repetition and microclimatic equipment was installed inside the...
