In Brazil, the thrips (Enneothrips flavens Moulton) and rednecked peanutworm (Stegasta bosquella Chambers) are considered key pests for the peanut crop. Wild species show resistance to both of these pests, and can be used in breeding programs. The production of the sterile interspecific hybrids is necessary, which could be colchicine treated to get a synthetic amphidiploid with the same or similar genomic configuration of cultivated peanut. Cucumber breeding and genomics: Potential from research with Cucumis hystrix National Institute of Agronomic Research

Cucumis hystrix Chakr. (2n=2x=24) is a wild Cucumis species found in Yunnan (China) having cross compatibility with cultivated cucumber (C. sativus L., 2n=2x=14). Since the first interspecific hybridization successfully made in 1995 and development of the synthetic allotetraploid species (C. X hytivus Chen and Kirkbride, 2n=4x=38) in 2000, experiments with C. hystrix and the progenies derived from this interspecific cross were carried out for the potentials in cucumber genetics and cultivar improvements. Some important characters or traits found in C. hystrix were introduced, and the novel germplasm developed from this cross and some results from genetic and epigenetic studies were summarized for the first time in this review. General status of cucurbit genetic resources in Turkey National Institute of Agronomic Research

Turkey is very rich in cucurbit genetic resources due to its diverse geographical and ecological situation. Turkey is one of the important diversity centers for cultivated cucurbits because of the adaptation to diverse ecological conditions as result of natural selection and also the farmers selection in accordance with their preference. National collection of Cucurbitaceae species at National Gene Bank of Turkey (AARI) consists of 2223 accessions. Abstract This research aimed to evaluate techniques for in vitro multiplication and rooting and ex vitro adaptation of wild blackberry plants (Rubus bogotensis Benth. and Rubus macrocarpus Kunth). In in vitro phases, the influence of culture media was evaluated based on Murashige & Skoog (MS) composition, with or without a 50% reduction in salts, vitamins, and myo-inositol and supplemented or not with benzylaminopurine (BAP), indole acetic acid (IAA), L-cysteine, agar, peat, perlite, and vermiculite. The ex vitro phase was based on a soil, rice husks, peat, and perlite substrate management.
