A new species Sphaerolaimus horrendus sp. n. found in the Black Sea off the southern Crimean coast is characterized by a strongly sclerotized mouth cavity provided with openings and a short conical tail. These features bring S. horrendus sp. n. together with S. crassicauda Freudenhammer, 1975. The main distinction of the new species consists in a greater length of accessory head bristles, presence of odontoid formations at the basis of openings.
