The 'BRS Platina' variety is a tetraploid hybrid (AAAB) developed by Embrapa Mandioca e Fruticultura, located in Cruz das Almas, Bahia, Brazil, originated from the cross between the 'Prata Anã' (AAB) cultivar and the M53 (AA) diploid. It presents good tillering, average stature and development and yield characteristics identical to the 'Prata Anã'. The fruits are also similar to those of this cultivar in terms of shape, size and flavor; however, they should be consumed with greener peel, just as for the varieties of the Cavendish subgroup. It differentiates from 'Prata Anã' for being resistant to yellow Sigatoka and Fusarium wilt. Average yield is around 20 t hao1 per year. Under fertile soils, average yield can reach 40 t ha-1per year.
