Resumo:  A description of the wood structure of 15 species of Talisia from the Guianas and adjacent areas is given. Among the neogean genera of the Sapindaceae Talisia is readily recognized by the combination of moderately few vessels, uniseriate or bi-seriate homocellular rays, aliformconfluent to banded parenchyma, the cells often containing rhombic crystals, and thick-walled fibres with a narrow lumen. The wood structure of the species is much alike, and it is not possible to identify a wood specimen to species on wood structure alone. It is pointed out that nearly identical wood occurs in the genera Guarea and Trichilia of the Meliaceae; the resemblance to some genera of tropical South American Leguminosae is more superficial.
