O presente trabalho teve como objetivo caracterizar a distribuição da fauna do solo e avaliar o efeito do manejo do solo sobre a diversidade da fauna edáfica nos compartimentos solo e serrapilheira em duas diferentes coberturas vegetais (floresta não preservada e cultivo de mandioca) no Norte Arapiraquense.
The present work had as objective characterizes the distribution of the fauna of the soil and to evaluate the effect of the handling of the soil on the diversity of the fauna edáfica us compartments soil and serrapilheira in two different vegetable coverings (forest not preserved and cassava cultivation) in the Norte Arapiraquense. The sampling of the fauna of the soil was accomplished with 3 repetitions, for manual catação of 0-5, 5-10, 10-20 and 20-40 cm, in two areas different, close to each other and in the same soil conditions and relief, embracing the following conditions of use of the earth: cassava in consortium (bean x corn) and a remaining area of the Atlantic forest (Domain Swamp of Altitude). The collections were made the months of September and November of 2007. The remaining area of the Atlantic forest, it showed in general way, a superior diversity of the fauna edáfica to the of the cultivation of the cassava, in the soil and in the serrapilheira, in the two times of collection. On the other hand, the handling of the soil interfered in the diversity of organisms owed the great use of chemical inputs during 2002, 2003 and 2004 in the cultivation of N. tabacum., showing the great influence of the agricultural practices on the animals. The groups of the fauna edáfica found in the forest area they were: Insecta, Arachnida, Oligochaeta.
