The present work had as objective to use techniques of systems of geographic information and remote sensing to mapear the use and covering of the land in the basin Santa Cruz located in the city of Porto Nacional-TO, qualitying and quantitying the level of degradation in areas of permanent preservation of the edges of the water courses having for base the limits established for the forest code and the Resolution nº 303 of the CONAMA. The results had pointed efficiency of the used tools and although the existence of conflicts of use in areas of permanent preservation the basin discovers conserved well.
