This article presents the experience in the implementation of a native species forest recovering project in private rural properties located in the Una river basin, municipality of Taubaté, in degraded areas with inadequate land use practices, and located in Permanent Protected Areas (APPs) determined by the Federal Law No 4.771/65. Twelve areas of one hectare each were selected based on diagnose results obtained from the Una river basin georreferenced environmental database. Forest recovering strategy followed the secondary succession conceptual framework for tropical forests utilizing only native species listed in the State Resolution SMA 21/01. A total of approximately 20,000 trees were planted in those areas. The implantation phase was fully successful mainly due to the compromise and involvement of landowners and the increased consciousness of promoting environmental benefits.
