Resumo:  This study was conducted under the CGPRT sponsored project on "Prospects of Feed Crops in South Asia-Pakistan (Feed)" to generate information on historical dynamics, future trends of demand and supply for feed crops/products, evaluation of potentials, weaknesses, opportunities and constraints for expanding feed crop farming in Pakistan, proposing possible schemes for trade and development of feed crops among Asian countries and the formulation of policy options to promote sustainable development of feed crop farming in Pakistan. In Pakistan, feed crops, which are being used in livestock and poultry feeding as grains, are mainly wheat, maize, sorghum and millet. These cereal crops are basically grown to meet human dietary requirements with a primary focus on wheat and rice. The milling by-products of wheat and rice i.e. brans, rice polish and rice tips are used in animal feeding. This study concludes that to achieve self-sufficiency in feed crops, there is a strong need to accelerate research and development to evolve appropriate and cost effective technologies.
