Resumo:  The $2.1 million invested for the sweet corn research breeding program resulted in the release of Hybrix5 in 1995 which is a new sweet corn variety with improved insect and disease resistance. Based on the ex-post evaluation of this research program, it was estimated that the net benefits of the program up to 2006 (in 2006 dollars) is around $3 million. The producer benefits are 4.5 times the costs of R&D. Extending the period up to 2012 (20 years) resulted in estimated net benefits of around $6 million in 2006 dollars. The producer benefits are 7.2 times the costs of the R&D.
