El uso de maíz para la producción de etanol genera grandes volúmenes de granos secos de destilería (DDGS: siglas en inglés), subproducto con destacado valor nutricional para la alimentación animal. Por ello, el objetivo del presente estudio fue evaluar el efecto de incluir DDGS en la dieta de corderos en crecimiento sobre el comportamiento productivo, variables ruminales (pH, AGV y N-NH3), degradabilidad in vitro de la MS (DIVMS), digestibilidad total aparente de la MS (DIAMS), FDN (DAFDN) y FDA (DAFDA), características de la canal y calidad de la carne. El diseño experimental fue completamente al azar usando 27 corderos criollos encastados con Rambouillet (PVI=24±2.41 kg), y los tratamientos fueron: 1) dieta testigo, sin DDGS; 2) con 20 % de DDGS y 3) con 40 % de DDGS de la MS. Los datos se analizaron con el procedimiento GLM de SAS, y las medias de tratamientos se compararon con la prueba de Tukey (p≤0.05). Los tratamientos no afectaron (p>0.05) el consumo de alimento, la ganancia diaria de peso y la conversión alimenticia, ni las variables ruminales. La DIAMS fue menor (p<0.05) en la dieta con 40 % de DDGS, pero fue similar entre las dietas testigo y 20 % de DDGS. La DAFDN y DAFDA fue mayor (p≤0.05) en la dieta con 20 % de DDGS respecto al testigo solamente. No hubo diferencias (p>0.05) en la DIVMS, a las 3, 6, 24 y 48 h, pero a las 9 y 12 h, fue mayor (p<0.05) en la dieta con 20 % de DDGS sólo respecto al testigo. Los tratamientos no afectaron (p>0.05) las características de la canal, ni las variables de calidad medidas en la carne. Se concluye que la inclusión de DDGS hasta en 40 % en la dieta de corderos no afecta el comportamiento productivo ni la calidad de la carne de corderos, con la ventaja de disminuir el costo de las dietas. _______________ MEAT QUALITY AND ANIMAL PERFORMANCE OF LAMBS FED DRIED DISTILLERS GRAIN IN THE DIET. ABSTRACT: The corn use for ethanol production generates large volumes of dried distillers grains (DDGS), by-product with outstanding nutritional value for animal feed. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of inclusion of DDGS in the lamb diets, on growing lamb performance; ruminal fermentation; DM, NDF and ADF digestibility (DIADM, DANDF, DAADF); in vitro ruminal fermentation (DIVDM); carcass characteristics and meat quality. The experimental design was completely randomized using 27 lambs crossbreed with Rambouillet (initial BW = 24±2.41 kg), and treatments were 1) control diet without DDGS, 2) diet with 20 % DDGS and 3) diet with 40 % DDGS. Data were analyzed with GLM procedure of SAS, and means were compared using Tukey test (p ≤ 0.05). Inclusion of DDGS in the diets did not affect (p < 0.05) feed intake, daily weight gain, feed conversion, and ruminal fermentation. DIADM was lower (p > 0.05) in the diet with 40 % DDGS, but was similar between control and diet with 20 % DDGS. DANDF and DAADF was higher (p < 0.05) in the diet with 20 % DDGS compared with the control only. There was not difference (p < 0.05) in DIVDM at 3, 6, 24 and 48 h, but at 9 and 12 h was higher (p < 0.05) in the diet with 20 % DDGS only relative to the control. The inclusion of DDGS in the diets did not affect (p < 0.05) carcass characteristics and meat quality. In conclusion, DDGS can be used up 40 % of the diet of lambs without affecting growth performance, carcass characteristics and meat quality, with the advantage of reducing the cost of diets.
