En la presente investigación, se buscó demostrar que la morfología de fruto y semilla de nanche, está relacionada con el comportamiento germinativo de la especie, así como identificar el tipo de latencia que presenta y evaluar el efecto de diversos tratamientos pre-germinativos, para facilitar la germinación de las semillas; para ello, se evaluaron caracteres morfológicos cuantitativos y cualitativos de planta, hoja, fruto y semilla y se realizaron dos pruebas de germinación estándar, una con semillas extraídas de los endocarpios y la otra con los endocarpios conteniendo a las semillas. La caracterización morfológica evidenció que el nanche es una especie ampliamente variable, y que los endocarpios de los ecotipos evaluados presentan dureza, espesor, número de semillas, número de semillas vanas y peso de semilla diferentes. La prueba con semillas extraídas, demostró que el endocarpio duro y grueso limita la germinación de éstas, al obtenerse los mejores porcentajes de germinación en los testigos de los cinco ecotipos (32, 42, 60, 75 y 58 % respectivamente); los resultados de la prueba de germinación con endocarpios, reafirman lo anterior, al obtener el máximo porcentaje de germinación (16.74 %) con la aplicación de Ácido Sulfúrico concentrado a 30 minutos, que desgastó el endocarpio, facilitando la protrusión de la radícula. Las semillas de nanche presentaron latencia primaria atribuible a la dureza y espesor del endocarpio, que se elimina mediante escarificación mecánica y química; la capacidad germinativa de nanche está relacionada también con el número de semillas por endocarpio, número de semillas vanas y el peso de la semilla.________The purpose of the present investigation was to demonstrate that the morphology of fruit and seed of nanche, is related to the germinative behavior of the species, as well as to identify the type of dormancy that presents and to evaluate the effect of diverse pre-germinative treatments, that promote the germination of the seeds; to do this, morphologic quantitative and qualitative characters of plant, leaf, fruit and seed, were evaluated; also, two tests of standard germination, one with seeds extracted from the endocarps and the second one using the endocarps containing the seeds. The morphologic characterization demonstrated that the nanche is a widely variable species, and that the endocarps of the evaluated ecotypes present different hardness, thickness, number of seeds, number of vain seeds and weight of seed. The test with extracted seeds, demonstrated that the hard and thick endocarp limits the germination of these, since five of the check ecotypes obtained the best percentages of germination (32, 42, 60, 75 and 58 % respectively); the results of the germination test with endocarps, reaffirm the previous statements, since the maximum percentage of germination (16.74 %) with the application of Sulphuric Acid concentrated at 30 minutes was obtained, which facilitated the protrusión of the radicle. The seeds of nanche presented primary dormancy attributable to the hardness and thickness of the endocarp, which is eliminated by means of mechanic and chemical scarification; the germinative capacity of nanche is also related to the number of seeds for endocarp, number of vain seeds and the weight of the seed.
