El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar las diferencias fenotípicas en ovinos utilizando variables morfométricas en el crecimiento, la productividad y el rendimiento en canal. Se evaluaron 36 corderos de las razas Suffolk, Dorset y su cruza tomando en cuenta el sexo, se formaron seis tratamientos. Se realizó análisis de componentes principales (ACP) con 19 variables que interactuaron entre sí y cinco estaciones de medición (0, 10, 20, 35 y 60 días), los resultados sugieren que para una prueba de comportamiento productivo es necesario tener un manejo especial para cada fenotipo por la respuesta al ambiente. Se obtuvieron cinco grupos morfométricos utilizando la dependencia entre las variables; el grupo uno es representado por peso vivo, grupo dos por alzada a la cruz, grupo tres perímetro torácico, grupo cuatro área del músculo Longissimus dorsi y grasa de cobertura. El grupo cinco que incluyó a todas las variables que mostraron independencia en el análisis estadístico. El uso de ultrasonido aplicados a modelos morfométricos es una herramienta útil en la selección de prospectos vientres basado en el mayor crecimiento del musculo L. dorsi de las hembras sobre los machos. Se encontraron diferencias significativas para peso, alzada a la cruz, área del músculo y grasa. El uso de medidas morfométricas en el crecimiento, permite determinar la respuesta productiva del fenotipo al ambiente en las etapas claves de una prueba de comportamiento productivo; explica la variación presente en los tratamientos evaluados y que al ser utilizadas de manera individual para representar los grupos obtenidos en este estudio, genera información valiosa que puede aplicarse a programas de mejora genética en ovinos. _______________ ABSTRACT: The target of this research was to determinate phenotypic differences in sheep using morphometric variables on growth, productivity and carcass yield. 36 sheep of the breed Suffolk, Dorset and its cross were evaluated; considering the sex of the animal six treatments were formed. A main analysis components (PAC) was done using 19 variables that interacted with five measurement stations (0, 10, 20, 35 and 60 days); results suggest that productive behavior test is necessary to have an special handling for each phenotype due the response to the environment. There were obtained five morphometric groups using the dependence among variables; group one is represented by alive weight, group two by the height at the withers, group three at the girth, group four at the area of the muscle Longissimus dorsi and fat cover and the group five that included all the variables that showed independence into the statistical analysis. The use of ultrasound applied to morphometric models is a useful tool in the selection of prospectuses sheep females based on the greater growth of L. dorsi muscle of females over males. Significant differences were found for the weight, height at the withers, area of the muscle and fat. The use of morphometric measurements in the growth allow to determine the productive answer of the phenotype to the environment in the key stages of a test of productive behavior; it explains the variation present in the evaluated treatments and that being use in individuals way to represent the obtained groups in this study generates valuable information that can be applied to a genetic breeding programs in sheep.
