In addition direct industrial wastes inputs are emptied into the estuary. Within the limits of the Seine Bay program it was not possible to research pollution impacts on every estuarine ecosystem link; so only benthos have been studied. To take time response of organisms into account, the authors have defined indicators or quantitative evaluation of parameters, reflecting physiological state. They have studied population fluctuations caused by natural or man induced effects.
