| ABSTRACT The objective of this research was to analyze the differences between the food behaviors observed under the factors of production environment, sex and lighting system, using stochastic tools of multivariate analysis. As for the thermal characteristics of the environment, air temperature (T, °C), enthalpy (H, kJ kg-1), and black globe temperature and humidity index (BGTHI) showed high positive correlation with each other and strong negative correlation with relative humidity (RH, %). | ABSTRACT An adequate thermal environment in pig farming facilities is essential to ensure productivity and animal welfare. The objective of this study was to evaluate the behavior and performance of finishing pigs, subjected to climate-controlled environments and supplementary lighting. | O objetivo desta pesquisa consistiu na avaliação do ambiente de alojamento, estimando as condições favoráveis ao melhor desempenho de matrizes gestantes. O experimento foi realizado no período compreendido entre 4-1 e 11-3-2005, em propriedade de produção industrial de suínos, localizada no município de Elias Fausto - SP. | Due to the importance of the environment on animal production and thus environmental control, the study aims to build a system for monitoring and control the meteorological variables, temperature and relative humidity, low cost, which can be associated with an evaporative cooling system (ECS). The system development included all the stages of assembly, test and laboratory calibration, and later the validation of the equipment carried in the field. | ABSTRACT The objective of this research was to evaluate the thermal efficiency of roofs used on individual shelters during milk-feeding stage of Girolando calves. The research was conducted at a farm located in a dry region of Pernambuco state, Brazil. The experimental design was completely randomized, with 27 Holstein × Gir dairy crossbred calves housed in shelters with three roofing materials (fibre cement tile, recycled tile, and thatched roofs). The recycled tiles and thatched roofs provided reductions of 18.7 and 14.6% in radiant thermal load, respectively. Regardless the roofing material, all animals increased their respiratory rate to maintain thermal equilibrium. |

| ABSTRACT This research was carried out in Recife, PE, Brazil, and aimed to assess the variation of the surface temperature of trays and substrate in the production of lettuce seedlings and its influence on the final product. Trays consisted of expanded polystyrene, conventional polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl chloride painted white, and polyvinyl chloride painted gray. | The aim of this paper was to evaluate the automated acclimatization effects during pre-milking of cows on thermal conditioning, physiology, milk production and cost-benefit of the automated adiabatic evaporative cooling system (AECS). The treatments 20; 30; 40 min and control consisted of exposure time of pre-milking cows to the automated AECS. Sixteen cows were used with an average daily milk yield of 19 kg, distributed in a 4 x 4 Latin square design. The Tukey's test (P<0.05) was used to compare the means. | RESUMO Este estudo foi conduzido com o objetivo de caracterizar a tipologia das instalações para produção de frangos de corte na região Agreste do Estado de Pernambuco, por meio de levantamento das características construtivas de aviários existentes na região. Foram avaliados 68 galpões, em 27 granjas, no período de maio de 2012 a abril de 2013. Com base nos resultados obtidos, 90% das instalações apresentaram orientação leste - oeste, com pequeno afastamento entre galpões (< 30 m). | O objetivo geral desta pesquisa foi avaliar o comportamento de leitões em diferentes sistemas de aquecimento por meio da análise de imagem. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida na sala da maternidade, com 80 animais entre o nascimento e o desmame. Os tratamentos adotados para a avaliação da eficiência dos diferentes sistemas de aquecimento do abrigo escamoteador foram: piso térmico, lâmpada incandescente, resistência elétrica e lâmpada de infravermelho.
