| No Brasil, o ácaro ectoparasita de abelhas Varroa destructor Anderson e Trueman (Acari: Varroidae) se mantém em índices de infestação baixos, não causando grandes prejuízos. Todavia com a introdução e possível predominância de um novo haplótipo (K) do ácaro, geralmente encontrado em regiões com altas taxas de infestação (TI), faz-se necessário o monitoramento e seleção de colônias resistentes à praga, evitando problemas futuros. Vários fatores são relacionados como possíveis responsáveis pela dinâmica de infestação do ácaro, dentre os quais se destaca o comportamento higiênico (CH). | We evaluated the infestation rate (IR) of the ectoparasite mite Varroa destructor in hives of the Africanized honeybee Apis mellifera in 10 commercial apiaries located in the municipality of Juquitiba (Vale do Ribeira, São Paulo, Brazil) during two seasons (summer and winter). From each apiary, three colonies were randomly selected for collection of bee samples in each season. The average mite IR was 7.3%, when pooling both seasons. For the summer period the average IR varied from 1.1 to 11.6% (KW = 25.9191; p < 0.01). For the winter period, IR values were observed ranging from 0.3 to 19.1% (KW = 18.7760; p < 0.05). | O pólen apícola é o resultado da aglutinação do pólen das flores, efetuada pelas abelhas operárias campeiras, mediante néctar e suas substâncias salivares. A composição química do pólen varia com a espécie vegetal assim como condições ambientais, estado nutricional e idade da planta. Devido sua alta concentração de proteínas, torna-se um alimento indispensável como fonte protéica das larvas e consequentemente no desenvolvimento da colônia, podendo ser utilizado inclusive na dieta humana. | Apesar dos inúmeros benefícios associados às abelhas-sem-ferrão, algumas espécies são consideradas pragas agrícolas (como as arapuás, por exemplo), por danificarem caules, flores, folhas e/ou frutos, facilitando a entrada de organismos causadores de doenças, prejudicando o desenvolvimento das plantas, bem como reduzindo a quantidade e o valor comercial dos frutos. Esta publicação reúne algumas medidas que podem auxiliar os produtores rurais a minimizar os impactos negativos causados pelas abelhas-arapuás e a conviver com esse grupo de insetos, o qual desempenha importante papel no ecossistema. |

| Sphecodes majalis, a new bee species for the Netherlands (Hymenoptera: Apidae) A population of Sphecodes majalis was found on a limestone grassland near Maastricht (Limburg). On several occasions more than 10 female and several male specimen were observed. Sphecodes majalis is a parasite of Lasioglossum pallens, which was recorded for the first time in the Netherlands in 1997. Since then L. pallens has become well established in the southern part of the province of Limburg. At the locality where S. majalis was found, L. pallens occurs in large numbers. In April many dozens of males swarm along the woodland edges. | Op initiatief van de Vereniging Natuurmonumenten heeft Stichting EIS-Nederland in 2008 de bijenfauna geïnventariseerd van vijf terreinen (zie onder). Speciale aandacht ging hierbij uit naar terreindelen waar in het kader van het Overlevingsplan Bos en Natuur (OBN) maatregelen getroffen zijn of zullen worden om verzuring, vermesting en verdroging tegen te gaan. Elk gebied is minimaal drie keer bezocht. Per gebied wordt de aangetroffen bijenfauna besproken en waar mogelijk vergeleken met gegevens uit eerdere jaren. Ook worden er aanbevelingen gegeven voor beheer ten gunste van de bijenfauna. | Bijen staan steeds meer in de belangstelling. Door hun gecompliceerde biotoopeisen worden veel soorten in hun voortbestaan bedreigd. De laatste jaren werden echter ook diverse bijen voor het eerst in ons land aangetroffen. Dit is ongetwijfeld een gevolg van de hogere temperaturen, waar deze zuidelijke zonaanbidders zich goed bij thuis voelen. In dit artikel wordt een vondst van de mooie sachembij Anthophora aestivalis bij Lobith gepresenteerd, de eerste Nederlandse waarneming sinds 1946. We zullen moeten afwachten of ook deze soort zich verder gaat uitbreiden in ons land. Bijenkenners wachten met spanning af of ook de witte rouwbij, broedparasiet van de mooie sachembij, terug zal keren. |
