Studies indicate that increasing physical activity and decreasing levels of fat in the liver help to decrease the risk of morbidity from liver conditions. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of an eight week intermittent training program on the liver tissue of rats subjected to a hyperlipidic diet. The study consisted of 30 male Wistar rats, divided into the following groups: Sedentary Control (SC) Exercise Control (EC) (fed on standard feed and water) Sedentary Obese (SO) and Exercise Obese (EO) (fed on bacon, ham, sausage, biscuits, soda and standard feed), which performed intermittent training through electrically stimulated jumps, with three sets of 12 repetitions, three times per week for eight weeks. At the end of the training period, the...

Maia,Bernardo Porto; Silveira,Jéssica de Oliveira; Borges,Mariana Garcia Lisboa; Pereira,Danilo Ales Ponzi; Pinheiro,Julyara Lima; Freitas,Jofre Jacob da Silva; Kietzer,Katia Simone.
Androgenic anabolic steroids (AAS) are artificial testosterone analogues, used as medicine in chronic diseases, because they increase protein synthesis generating muscle hypertrophy. Its effect has caught the attention of athletes and gym users, thus their consumption has become epidemic, due to easy marketing, the immediate results and the false impression that it doesn't carry health risks. Such risks may globally harm the body. This study aims to investigate the influence on spermatogenesis of using nandrolone decanoate with or without physical training. Twenty-four rats, divided into four groups were used: sedentary group (SG), sedentary on steroids group (SSG), trained group (TG) and trained on steroids group (TSG). The animals were trained on...

Thermographic evaluation of exercise influence on the joints of the hind legs of healthy dogs MV&Z
Germano, Bruno; Navarro Alves de Souza, Alexandre; Maria Matera, Julia.
Many muscular contractions occur when an exercise is performed, transforming the chemical energy from food ingested into kinetic energy. No organism can achieve 100% efficiency in this process; the remaining is thus converted into thermic energy, generating heat that will be transported to superficial tissues and dissipated through the skin. Such energy release can be captured and measured by thermography, which registers infra-red emissions, indicating the body temperature. This study observed how the joints of the hind legs of healthy dogs thermally behave when submitted to different activities to evaluate how much each joint is required for the execution of the exercises. Twelve healthy dogs were submitted various activities: going up stairs, going down...

General aspects of muscle glucose uptake Anais da ABC (AABC)
ALVIM,RAFAEL O.; CHEUHEN,MARCEL R.; MACHADO,SILMARA R.; SOUSA,ANDRÉ GUSTAVO P.; SANTOS,PAULO C.J.L..
Glucose uptake in peripheral tissues is dependent on the translocation of GLUT4 glucose transporters to the plasma membrane. Studies have shown the existence of two major signaling pathways that lead to the translocation of GLUT4. The first, and widely investigated, is the insulin activated signaling pathway through insulin receptor substrate-1 and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase. The second is the insulin-independent signaling pathway, which is activated by contractions. Individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus have reduced insulin-stimulated glucose uptake in skeletal muscle due to the phenomenon of insulin resistance. However, those individuals have normal glucose uptake during exercise. In this context, physical exercise is one of the most important...

Evaluation of anaerobic threshold in non-pregnant and pregnant rats Anais da ABC (AABC)
NETTO,ALINE OLIVEIRA; MACEDO,NATHÁLIA C.D.; GALLEGO,FRANCIANE Q.; SINZATO,YURI K.; VOLPATO,GUSTAVO T.; DAMASCENO,DÉBORA C..
ABSTRACT Several studies present different methodologies and results about intensity exercise, and many of them are performed in male rats. However, the impact of different type, intensity, frequency and duration of exercise on female rats needs more investigation. From the analysis of blood lactate concentration during lactate minimum test (LacMin) in the swimming exercise, the anaerobic threshold (AT) was identified, which parameter is defined as the transition point between aerobic and anaerobic metabolism. LacMin test is considered a good indicator of aerobic conditioning and has been used in prescription of training in different exercise modalities. However, there is no evidence of LacMin test in female rats. The objective was to determine AT in...

The effect of newly initiated exercise training on dynamic thiol / disulphide homeostasis in sedentary obese adults Anais da ABC (AABC)
CELIK,HAKIM; KILIC,TUGBA; KAPLAN,DAVUT S.; EREN,MEHMET A.; EREL,OZCAN; KARAKILCIK,ALI Z.; BAGCI,CAHIT.
Abstract: We studied dynamic thiol/disulphide homeostasis, an indicator of oxidative stress, to investigate the effects of newly initiated exercise training on sedentary obese adults. Seventeen sedentary obese adults and 15 normal-weight controls were included in the sample for this study. The obese adults were given a physical exercise training program that lasted twelve weeks. Before and after the exercise training program, blood samples were collected, and serum thiol/disulphide parameters were measured by using a novel technique. Before the start of the exercise training, it was observed that thiol/disulphide homeostasis was impaired, and this impairment was positively correlated with body mass index in sedentary obese adults because of the higher...
