In this family two genera are distinguished, Kadsura and Schisandra. The former has 9 species in Malesia, the latter only 2. The general part of the treatment consists of 6 pages and contains a paragraph on pollen morphology by R.W.J.M. van der Ham. Phytochemistry and chemotaxonomy are summarized in the treatment of Illiciaceae (see entry above). The family, genera, and Malesian species are described and annotated; there are keys to the genera and species. Illustration is by two full-page line drawings. |

During a short stay at Bangkok on December 3rd, 1953, Professor H. Boschma observed that enormous quantities of minute insects were attracted by lamplight in the hotel of the Royal Dutch Airlines (K.L.M.) "Plaswijk" at the airport Laksi. From the enormous accumulations of these insects around the lamps he collected a sample which he entrusted to me for examination. This sample proved to consist almost entirely of a new species of mayfly which is described in the present paper. Caenis demoulini nov. spec. Female imago. Head and thorax uniformly yellowish brown. Eyes purple-black, prominent. Antennae grey-brown ; median ocellus prominent, colour light brown with a darker edge. Abdomen pale yellowish brown, at the dorsal surface with light browngrey markings,... |

Three plant-inhabiting fungi with tetraradiate conidia, Tricornispora bambusae Bonar, Fumagopsis triglifioides Speg., and Eriosporella calami (Niessl) Höhn., the type species of monotypic genera, are redescribed and illustrated from type specimens. These genera are regarded as distinct. Fumagopsis is possibly closely related to Kazulia Nag Raj. Since the type specimen of Tridentaria Preuss did not bear a fungus which agreed with the very brief original description, the genus Tridentaria Preuss is regarded as doubtful. The nematode-trapping Hyphomycetes formerly placed in Tridentaria should be reclassified. |

Diakonoff, A.. |
In 1913, Edward Meyrick removed several genera from his compound family Yponomeutidae and united them in a new group, "Glyphipterygidae". After 1954, this name has been used generally, often in the emended spelling "Glyphipterigidae". The family name was not new but used by Meyrick in an entirely different sense. Former authors (Zeller, 1839; Stainton, 1854; Frey, 1856, etc.) indicated with the name "Glyphipterygidae" only one of the two main groups of Meyrick's enlarged concept, viz., the "Glyphipteryginae" or the "Glyphipterygidae sensu stricto". In spite of its existence during quite a long time, Meyrick's family " Glyphiteryginae" proved to be an unsatisfactory combination. In later years, especially recently, its highly heterogeneous character became... |

This book is an annotated list of the fungi of the English county of Warwickshire. This unique survey of the fungus flora of a British county was undertaken jointly by members of the Birmingham Natural History Society and members of the staff of the Department of Plant Biology of the University of Birmingham. It supplements the earlier-published survey of the vascular plants and bryophytes of the county (Cadbury, Hawkes & Readett. ‘A computermapped flora: a study of the county of Warwickshire.’ London, 1971). There is information on habitats, distribution, and other details relating to 2,600 species of slime molds, fungi, and lichens. This book is very useful to mycologists interested in field work and those engaged in mycological surveys of other... |

The highest mountains in South-East Asia are in the Sudirman range of Indonesian New Guinea; the highest is Mt Jaya which rises to 4 884 m and is still partly glaciated. The geological history of the region has left it rich in mineral deposits and the alpine area is currently being mined for copper. In 1997 a project was initiated by the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, in conjunction with the mining companies Rio Tinto and PT-Freeport Indonesia, to study the region’s flora. An introduction to the region, including geology, glaciation and past exploration will be given, as well as the history and objectives of the Kew project. During the project, Kew made several collaborative expeditions to the area, as well as a database of all historical collections from Mt... |

Two decades ago the senior author was urged by the West New Guinea Forest Service to name a rather common canopy tree of New Guinea and the Moluccas. Among two dozen collections there was only one in flower, from the island of Ceram. Though the species was certainly new for Malesia, the absence of fruit explained his hesitation to refer it to one of the genera of the Tristania-Xanthostemon-Metrosideros complex to which it clearly belonged. It was finally described as Metrosideros nigroviridis Steen., the specific epithet alluding to the sepia-coloured twigs and conspicuously green-drying leaves. Finally, about 1960 a fruiting specimen collected by Chr. Versteegh came to hand (BW 4702) which showed by its indehiscent nature and fleshy pericarp that it could... |

Beek, A. van de; Meijer, K.. |
A new species is described here: Rubus psilops A. Beek & K. Meijer. It is characterized by very short hairs, which give the impression that the plant is more glabrous than it is. The leaves are very coarsely serrated, usually with a narrow rhomboid or obovate terminal leaflet. The inflorescence is narrow pyramidal or cylindrical, with leaves at the base only. Flowers small, late.
