The karyotype of Adenomera diptyx (Boettger 1885) (Anura, Leptodactylidae) from northeastern Argentina Genet. Mol. Biol.
Zaracho,Víctor Hugo; Hernando,Alejandra Beatriz.
In this work we analyzed the karyotype of five populations of Adenomera diptyx from Argentina after conventional staining, Ag-NOR and C-banding. All specimens presented 2n = 26 and FN = 34. The karyotype was formed by three submetacentric, one metacentric and nine telocentric pairs. Silver staining revealed that the NOR was located on a secondary constriction in pair 7. C- banding evidenced constitutive heterochromatin at the pericentromeric region of all chromosomes. The karyotype of A. diptyx was similar to that of A. hylaedactyla (2n = 26, FN = 34) and different from that of A. andreae (2n = 26, FN = 40) in the fundamental number and secondary constriction position. It also differed from the karyotypes of A. marmorata (2n = 24, FN = 34 and 36) and of A....

Genetics and human rights: Two histories: restoring genetic identity after forced disappearance and identity suppression in Argentina and after compulsory isolation for leprosy in Brazil Genet. Mol. Biol.
Penchaszadeh,Victor B.; Schuler-Faccini,Lavinia.
Over the past three decades, there has been an accelerated development of genetic technology, leading to its use in human genetic identification for many purposes. Additionally, it has been made explicit that identity is a fundamental human right. A number of historical circumstances have connected these developments. Personal identity is increasingly associated with the preservation and defense of human rights and is a tool to repair the violation of these rights, particularly the right to identity. In this article, we report the use of genetics to support the right to identity in two historical circumstances. First, we report the search, localization, DNA testing and genetic identification of 110 individuals who were appropriated as babies by the...

Use of AFLP and RAPD molecular genetic markers and cytogenetic analysis to explore relationships among taxa of the Patagonian Bromus setifolius complex Genet. Mol. Biol.
García,Ana M.; Schrauf,Gustavo E.; González,Graciela; Poggio,Lidia; Naranjo,Carlos A.; Dupal,Marck P.; Spangenberg,Germán C.; Forster,John W..
Bromus setifolius var. pictus (Hook) Skottsb., B. setifolius var. setifolius Presl. and B. setifolius var. brevifolius Ness are three native Patagonian taxa in the section Pnigma Dumort of the genus Bromus L. AFLP and RAPD analysis, in conjunction with genetic distance measurements and statistical techniques, revealed variation within this group and indicated that B. setifolius var. brevifolius was closely related to B. setifolius var. pictus, with both taxa being more distantly related to B. setifolius var. setifolius. Cytogenetic analysis confirmed the chromosomal number of B. setifolius var. pictus (2n = 70) and B. setifolius var. setifolius (2n = 28) and showed for the first time that B. setifolius var. brevifolius had 2n = 70. The combination of...

Abba,Agustín M.; Cassini,Guillermo H.; Galliari,Fernando C..

Zool.
Blanco,Marcela Adriana.
Morphometric characters of two populations of Difflugia corona Wallich, 1864 collected in two climatic stations (Spring, Autumn) in lentic environments of Chaco Province, Argentina, are studied. In the first climatic station it was registered specimens of bigger size; in the second, the size of the individuals was very below the minimum values registered. It is suggested a possible relationship between the size of the organisms and the availability of the inhabitable vegetable substratum.

Redescription of larva, pupa and adult of Anopheles (Anopheles) annulipalpis (Diptera: Culicidae) and the removal of the specie of the Cycloleppteron Series Iheringia, Sér. Zool.
Rossi,Gustavo C..
ABSTRACT The redescription of male, female, pupa and larva of Anopheles (Anopheles) annulipalpis Lynch Arribálzaga, 1878 is presented. The species is included in the Cycloleppteron Series of Anopheles, although several authors consider that this is artificial. The redescription of Anopheles annulipalpis demonstrate that pupae have laticorn trumpet. By this fact is compared with An. grabhamii Theobald, 1901 and similar species of the Arribalzagia Series and Myzorhynchus Series. The laticorn type of trumpet joined the other differences and similarities found are sufficient to remove An. annulipalpis of Cycloleppteron Series and included as an unplaced member of the Angusticorn Section.

Effects of anthropogenic impacts on benthic macroinvertebrates assemblages in subtropical mountain streams Iheringia, Sér. Zool.
Mesa,Leticia M.; Reynaga,María Celina; Correa,Marcela del V.; Sirombra,Martín G..
The nature of the riparian and surrounding landscape has been modified by anthropogenic activities, which may subsequently alter the composition and functional structure of macroinvertebrate assemblages. The effect of these changes on function of benthic fauna is difficult to assess due to the scarce knowledge on functional structures in tropical streams. In this study we evaluate whether sites impacted and unimpacted by anthropogenic alterations differed in assemblage composition and density, richness and diversity of each functional feeding group. The selection of the sites was related to their distinct riparian characteristics, following the QBRy riparian quality index. Collector-gatherer was the dominant functional feeding group, comprising 91% of...

Hydroid assemblages from Mar del Plata, Argentina, at depths between 0 and 500 m. Distribution and biological substrata ArchiMer
Genzano, Gn; Zamponi, Mo.
The first studies on hydroids of the subantarctic region (SW Atlantic Ocean) were based on samples from expeditions to the Antarctic at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. In spite of these works, hydroids from the northern Argentine continental shelf remained unknown until the 1960s. In coastal waters off Mar del Plata, studies on hydroids have been few in number and limited to species described from preserved material. Even rudimentary ecological information is lacking in these reports. Over the past few decades, samples from oceanographic expeditions, and specimens collected directly from the intertidal rocky shore or by means of scuba diving and snorkeling, have provided heretofore unpublished information on hydropolyps of the Mar...
