Taxonomic and nomenclatural notes on Laccaria B. & Br. Laccaria amethystea, L. fraterna, L. laccata, L. pumila, and their synonyms Naturalis
Mueller, Gregory M.; Vellinga, Else C..
Laccaria amethystea, not L. amethystina nor L. calospora, is shown to be the correct name for the amethyst colored Laccaria. A neotype for L. amethystea is proposed and a complete list of its synonyms is given. Data which support placing L. ohiensis and L. tetraspora in synonymy with L. laccata are discussed and three varieties within L. laccata are recognized. These varieties are L. laccata var. laccata, L. laccata var. moelleri, and L. laccata var. pallidifolia. Based on these data, a synonymy list and description of each variety is presented. Laccaria laccata var. pallidifolia is shown to be the most common and abundant variety. The correct name for L. striatula sensu Sing. non Peck is L. pumila and for L. ohiensis sensu Sing, non Montagne is L. fraterna.

The pelvic bones of Physeter macrocephalus L. Naturalis
Deinse, A.B. van.
Although from 1255 up till now about 47 Physeter macrocephalus have been cast upon the coast of the Netherlands, or have come ashore alive, but very few materials have been preserved and we are in the possession of only two specimens, those of 1937, the complete skeletons of which are preserved in the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie, Leiden. Apart from these skeletons the following fragments are preserved : 1. The damaged upper part of the skull and three vertebrae from the animal of Scheveningen, 1617. These fragments are in the possession of the Dutch Protestant Church, Keizerstraat, Scheveningen (Van Deinse, 1918, p. 42, etc., and Plate IV). 2. The left humerus, radius, and ulna, grown together, probably from the same specimen as no. 1. This bone...

C.A. Book review Naturalis
NN.
The 4th volume in this series, which was initiated by German J. Krieglsteiner, is completed and prepared for print after Krieglsteiner’s death by Andreas Gminder. The present volume treats several families of Agarics, viz. Amanitaceae, Lepiotaceae, Entolomataceae, Pluteaceae, Bolbitiaceae, Strophariaceae and Crepidotaceae. Within the families, genera are treated in alphabetical order. Keys are presented to all species occurring in Baden-Württemberg, followed by short descriptions or notes to the species, including details on ecology, threat and distribution in the state Baden-Württemberg. Many species are also presented in the form of colour photographs, which are generally of good to excellent quality, and distribution maps are often given. The taxonomy...

Cyclommatus squamosus, a new species of Lucanid from Borneo Naturalis
Ritsema Cz., C..
Years ago I received from his Excellency, the Ex-Governor General of Dutch India J. W. van Lansbercre, a lot of beetles from Sintang (Borneo), containing a. o. a male Cyclommatus of minor development, which I believed to belong to an uudescribed species. I abstained, however, from describing it for want of the major development, but gave it the provisory name of squamosus, making allusion to the large scales by which the insect is covered on its upper surface. Now, a few days ago, my friend Neervoort van de Poll handed to me for identification a male Cyclommatus of major development from Brunei (Borneo), captured by Mr. Waterstradt, and I was highly surprised to find that it belonged to the same, still uudescribed species as my small male from Sintang....

Systematic notes on Asian birds. 9. The “Nouveau recueil de planches coloriées” of Temminck & Laugier (1820-1839) Naturalis
Dickinson, E.C..
The “Nouveau recueil de planches coloriées” of Temminck & Laugier (1820-1839) contains many descriptions of new birds and is of fundamental importance to the history of ornithology. A new detailed review of the evidence presented by the book itself has brought clarity to the relationships between the plates and the livraisons2 of which they were a part. The opportunity has been taken to provide a fresh list of dates for the livraisons, this contains minor changes to that of Zimmer (1926) and the earlier, more widely known one of Sherborn (1898). After this study reached its conclusions important new information has come to light, which confirms the main findings. The second part of this paper reviews specific cases investigated. These relate to Asian...

On two new species of Holectypus Desor from the Senonian of South-Limburg near Maastricht, Netherlands Naturalis
Engel, H..
Up to now the genus Holectypus Desor (1842, p. 52) 1847, (cf. Mortensen, 1948, Monogr. IV 1, p. 26) in its restricted sense (with 4 genital pores) has not been recorded from the Senonian. So the two specimens described below as H. boschmai nov. spec. may have been remaniated and finally deposited in the Senonian of South-Limburg. They then may belong to the Jurassic species H. corallinus d'Orbigny, 1850. Though the preservation of two other specimens of Holectypus from the Limburg Senonian does not permit to decide whether a fifth genital pore is present, it is presumed there was. These two specimens are described as H. macrostomus nov. spec. As said, up to now no Senonian Holectypus is known with 4 genital pores. Holectypus boschmai nov. spec. (pl. XIV)...

On the West-African species of the subgenus Eupalaemon Ortm Naturalis
Man, J.G. de.
In addition to my description of Palaemon (Eupalaemon) Lenzii de Man (see p. 225 of this volume) I give here a key to the species of the subgenus Eupalaemon Ortm. as yet known to occur in the rivers of West-Africa. Six species are at present known from there, viz.: 1. Pal. (Eupalaemon) macrobrachion Herklots 1851. General distribution: The rivers from Sierra Leone to Benguella [Sierra Leone (v. Martens); Liberia (de Man); near Boutry (Herklots); river Prah, South of Ashantee (de Man); Cameroon (Aurivillius); Congo coast, probably from Ambriz (de Man); from fresh water at Catumbella near Benguella (de Man)].

Pollenmorphological notes on the genus Dimocarpus (Sapindaceae) Naturalis
Muller, Jan.
The pollen morphology of all 5 species of the genus Dimocarpus was studied. General pollen morphology is rather uniform and only one main type is present, which could be subdivided into 7 subtypes on minor differences in shape, aperture, and exine pattern. Intraspecific variability is present in some species. Morphological trends are established and related to the taxonomic subdivision. Taxa which are macromorphologically advanced appear to have developed also derived pollen subtypes.

Die van Hasselt’schen Nudibranchien Naturalis
Bergh, R..
Contribution to our knowledge of the Avifauna of the Netherlands, being a list of all the species of birds hitherto observed, with special references to specimens in the Leyden Museum Naturalis
Oort, E.D. van.
Though the specimens in our general ornithological collection, for the greater part collected before and at the time that the late Professor H. Schlegel interested himself much in the knowledge of the birds of the Netherlands — that is before 1865 —, in addition with those of the fine collection of stuffed birds, brought together by the late Mr. J. P. van Wickevoort Crommelin, all captured in the Netherlands and received by the Museum in 1893, form for many of the species a scientific material, I however acquired the experience, when taking the care of the Birds-collection of our Museum in 1904, that many other species, even some of the commonest ones, were represented in an insufficient manner, so that it was impossible to make a somewhat serious study...

The genus Bridelia (Euphorbiaceae) in Malesia and Indochina – A regional revision Naturalis
Dressler, Stefan.
A taxonomic revision of Bridelia Willd. for Southeast Asia is presented together with comments on the characters used, the biogeography of the species involved and the phytographic history of the genus. Nineteen species are recognised for the region (one from New Guinea was recently described as new). A key and full descriptions are provided. Maps illustrate the distribution of 15 species. Several distributional patterns were found which mainly reflect ecological requirements. The currently accepted infrageneric delimitation (especially on the sectional level) as proposed by Jablonszky (1915) seems no longer to meet the demands of modern taxonomy and is used here only as a handy working tool, but no attempt is undertaken to propose a new one.
