The common New World egg parasitoid of the corn leafhopper Dalbulus maidis (DeLong) (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae), an economically important pest of maize from Argentina to southern USA, has long been misidentified as the Palaearctic species Anagrus incarnatus Haliday or its synonym A. breviphragma Soyka (Hymenoptera: Mymaridae). Using a combination of genetic and morphometric methods, and available biological information, specimens reared from eggs of D. maidis in Argentina and Mexico, described and illustrated here as Anagrus ) virlai Triapitsyn sp. n., are shown to be different from those of A. incarnatus from the Palaearctic region. Mitochondrial and nuclear ribosomal DNA sequence data provide clear evidence for the separation of the two species. Anagrus... |

One of the problems of automatic models that generate topic taxonomies is the process of creating the most significant term list that discriminates each document group. In this paper, a new method to label document hierarchical clusters is proposed, which is completely independent from the clustering method. This method automatically decides the number of the words in each label list, avoids word repetitions in a tree branch and provides a kind of cutting for the cluster tree. The obtained results were tested as search queries in a retrieval process and showed a very good performance. Additionally, the use of the method was experimented by some specialists in the text collection domain, trying to evaluate their understanding and expectations over the... |

[Pseudomonas] rubrisubalbicans, a mild plant pathogen, Herbaspirillum seropedicae, and EF group 1 strains (clustered by an immunological method) were investigated by a polyphasic approach with DNA-rRNA and DNA-DNA hybridizations and auxanography on 147 substrates. Our results show that they all belong to the genus Herbaspirillum. In addition to H. seropedicae, two other species are described: Herbaspirillum rubrisubalbicans and a new unnamed species, Herbaspirillum species 3, containing mainly strains of clinical origin. The three species can be differentiated on the basis of their auxanographic features and DNA-DNA similarities. The type strain of H. rubrisubalbicans is NCPPB 1027 (=LMG 2286); representative strains of the third Herbaspirillum species are... |

The ecotone forests in the northern region of Brazilian Amazonia are important areas representing transition zones between forest and non-forest ecosystems. These areas have soils nutrient-poor that poorly drain. Under these environmental conditions, Peltogyne gracilipes (Leguminoseae), an endemic tree species, can form natural monodominant forests. Here, we assessed the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) community in three forest types on the eastern side of Maraca Island and the relationship of these microorganisms with the monodominance of P. gracilipes. In this study, soil samples were collected in two seasons (dry and rainy). The samples were collected in 9 plots, in rich areas, poor areas and areas without P. gracilipes. Soil samples were evaluated... |
