| Artificial insemination mastery in red drum, Sciaenops ocellatus, requires a first experimental step wOOng at getting basic biological data. Regarding males, a relation between optical density of the solution (OD) measured by spectrophotometry and sperm concentration (SC) has been established : OD O,161*SC + 0,119. Mean sperm concentration measured is 4,36.10 10 spz.mL-1. This study shows an influence of the solution of dilution on spermatozoa motility and its evolution during short term preservation. As far as females are concemed, the follow-up of final maturation through the observation of samples taken during reguIar strippings, seems to he a good technique to limit overripening and spontaneous liheration of ovules. | Sea bass, Dicentrarchus labrax (mean weight: 748 +/- 13 g), were maintained before and during vitellogenesis in 1, 3, 8, 16 and 32 m(3) tanks, and then they were transferred to 2 m(3) tanks, for the spawning season. During the first 2 months of the experiment, the growth rates were significantly lower in smaller tanks (1 m(3)). In August, the oocyte diameters were significantly lower in smaller tanks (1, 3 and 8 m(3)) than in larger (16-32 m(3)) tanks. At the end of the experiment, the fish mean weight in the 1 m(3) tanks was significantly lower than in the 3 m(3) tanks, but oocyte diameters and plasma oestradiol concentrations were not significantly different between the volumes. | The uptake and elimination of six PBDE congeners (BDE-28, -47, -99, -100, -153, -209) were studied in juvenile common sole (Solea solea L) exposed to spiked contaminated food over a three-month period, then depurated over a five-month period. The results show that all of the studied PBDEs accumulate in fish tissues, including the higher brominated congener BDE-209. Several additional PBDE congeners were identified in the tissues of exposed fish, revealing PBDE transformation, mainly via debromination. The identified congeners originating from PBDE debromination include BDE-49 and BDE-202 and a series of unidentified tetra-, penta-, and hepta- BDEs.
