Impact des engins de pêche et Directive Habitats et Oiseaux (complément de la saisine sur Natura 2000) ArchiMer
Berthou, Patrick; Demaneche, Sebastien; Drogou, Mickael; Laurans, Martial; Pitel-roudaut, Mathilde; Fritsch, Manon; Leblond, Emilie.

Current Status of the Algae Production Industry in Europe: An Emerging Sector of the Blue Bioeconomy ArchiMer
Araújo, Rita; Vázquez Calderón, Fatima; Sánchez López, Javier; Azevedo, Isabel Costa; Bruhn, Annette; Fluch, Silvia; Garcia Tasende, Manuel; Ghaderiardakani, Fatemeh; Ilmjärv, Tanel; Laurans, Martial; Mac Monagail, Micheal; Mangini, Silvio; Peteiro, César; Rebours, Céline; Stefansson, Tryggvi; Ullmann, Jörg.
The EU Bioeconomy Strategy aims to support the sustainable growth and development of the EU bio-based sectors while creating jobs, innovation and services. Despite the recognized potential of the algae biomass value chain, significant knowledge gaps still exist regarding the dimension, capability, organization and structure of the algae production in Europe. This study presents and analyses the results of a comprehensive mapping and detailed characterization of the algae production at the European scale, encompassing macroalgae, microalgae, and the cyanobacteria Spirulina. This work mapped 447 algae and Spirulina production units spread between 23 countries, which represents an important addition to the reported number of algae producing countries. More...

The Recopesca project: a new example of participative approach to collect in-situ environmental and fisheries data using fisheries vessels of opportunity ArchiMer
Leblond, Emilie; Berthou, Patrick; Laurans, Martial; Woerther, Patrice; Quemener, Loic.
Face to the lack of data to assess precisely the spatial distribution of catches and fishing effort and for the environmental characterization of the fishing area, Ifremer has been implemented since 2005 a new project, Recopesca. It consists in fitting out a sample of voluntary fishing vessels with sensors recording data on fishing effort (and at mid-terms catches) and physical parameters such as temperature or salinity. Recopesca aims at setting up a network of sensors, for scientific purposes, to collect data allowing improving resources assessment and diagnostics on fisheries, and environmental data required for ecosystem-based management initiatives. The challenge was to develop sensors with no trouble for the fishermen, tough enough to be fixed up on...

Modelling seasonal and annual variation in size at functional maturity in the European lobster (Homarus gammarus) from self-sampling data ArchiMer
Laurans, Martial; Fifas, Spyros; Demaneche, Sebastien; Brerette, Stéphane; Debec, Olivier.
Fishers from Le Croisic (France) measure all the lobsters (Homarus gammarus) they capture, indicating their sex and whether the females are ovigerous or non-ovigerous. Between 2003 and 2006 and mainly between April and September, 16 884 lobsters were measured in this manner. These self-sampled data were used to study catchability and functional maturity of lobsters. The sex ratio was 50%, and catchability did not change if a female was ovigerous or non-ovigerous. With the help of a logistic function, a relationship was established between body size and the proportion of ovigerous females. For the study area, 100% of the females were mature upon reaching a carapace length (CL) of 115 mm, and the proportion of ovigerous females reached 70% each year. The L50...

Blackfin tuna (Thunnus atlanticus) fishing around FADs in Martinique (French West Indies) ArchiMer
Taquet, Marc; Reynal, Lionel; Laurans, Martial; Lagin, Alain-sabin.
This paper examines the fishing of blackfin tuna (Thunnus atlanticus) around Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs) in Martinique (French West Indies). It is based on the compared analysis of catches from monthly experimental fishing surveys and sampling of commercial landings. The data collected in these two different ways allowed comparison of blackfin tuna length frequencies. A large part of the commercial landings were made up of young immature tuna with a fork length of less than 40 cm, whereas the experimental longline catches were mainly made up of fish with a fork length ranging between 55 and 75 cm. We give evidence that these discrepancies were mostly due to the fishing technique used. Indeed, contrarily to the experimental surveys, Martinican fishermen...
