| Within the framework of ecological studies related to a coastal nuclear power plant in Flamanville (west coast of Cotentin, English Channel, France), zooplancton was sampled, according to a monthly and even fortnightly frequency, from 1977 to 1979 and from 1983 to 1992. At the same time, water temperature was measured; in addition, daily records taken at the intake cooling system are available since 1986. Occurence of young zoeae of spider crab (first stage) collected in the vicinity of power plant, but outside the thermal plume, shows interannual variability in hatching periods : hatching starts between the beginning of june and the end of july and reaches its maximum between early july and early september. | The development of ecosystem-based indicators requires the broadening of a view of the community, from fish species to all the species (macrobenthic and fish) correctly captured by a given sampling gear. Many scientific surveys already have such integrated databases. | Long-term monitoring of zooplankton and temperature has been carried out at the nuclear power station of Flamanville (west coast of Cotentin, English Channel, France) since 1977. Zooplankton sampling and temperature measurements took place at fortnightly intervals, particularly during the spring and summer. In addition, daily records of water temperature were recorded since 1986. The seasonal appearance of Maja brachydactyla Balss, 1922 first stage zoeae in the plankton outside the thermal plume near to the power station can greatly vary from year-to-year. | Zooplancton was sampled in 1983 in the french west coast of English Channel. This paper presents the results obtained about the larvae of the edible crab (Cancer pagurus L.). Zoeal distribution is given for the May cruise which covered all the area concerned.The other cruises covered a smaller area from march to october, according to a monthly and even fortinghtly frequency ; the latter provide us seasonal variations of zoeal and megalopa stages in the east part of western Channel and show that the May cruise took place before the peak of zoeal density.
